I'm a few steps away from separating my cab from the frame. First up is continuing the frame restoration, so far having worked on the frame's front (clips removed) and the rear end (beds removed).
Since this is happening over time, I got to thinking that for the cab I'd probably need to plan this part better to keep it from rusting after sanding. I don't want to do two hours of sanding, then two of cleaning, and two more of painting so what is good here? How do you handle staging the work and keeping portions completed protected in the interim?
Does one just buy spray cans and spray it over a cleaned area and come back and resand for spraying? I'm working outdoors for the most part, but I can move the cab into the shelter too...
Just something to mull over and I know it's kinda stupid but anyone have tips? I got lot's of things I'm doing including the frame, gas tank, brake lines, fuel lines, transmission, engine to put in, and body work is another.
I think you may be starting to many things at once. I would break the project down into sections and complete one before going to the next. If you start jumping around you will waste time and money and have to redo stuff because it may sit to long without protection. Besides that, it will seem that nothing gets finished and you tend to loose interest or get discouraged.
Well, I've never heard that before, ha, ha. Well, taking smaller steps is good advice for me to follow... I do tend to try to eat the whole thing at once.... I'm still working out removing the cab after all. I guess I can wait since first up is frame once I get the cab off.
After posting, I talked with a guy at work and it will be more stable inside so I'll swap the engine and tranny in the shelter for the cab after frame is done. Then I'll worry about the cab repairs.
The friend said I could take it to a local place and have them soda blast the whole thing for $200. Well, I called and they said more like $1500 and suggested taking out the whole dash and wiring too...
