highboy gas tanks
Does anyone know where I would be able to find a company that makes rear mount gas tanks for the f250 highboys? I don't want to keep the original in cab tank and I don't really want to go the route of a fuel cell... I have 2 saddle tanks on the sides that are about 10 gallons a piece but I would like to find a rear mount 30 something gallon tank to go where the rear tire is mounted. The way that my exaust is routed I can't really do one of the side mount frame tanks that came as aux tanks on these trucks... Can anyone help???

Some people have used the classic Mustang tanks, but they only hold 12-14 gallons as well.
I had a gas tank company saved to my favourite until the computer crashed, I have tried but I can find it again.
I will continue to look for it though
Maybe contact Bronco Graveyard and see what they suggest

I have looked at alot of those companys and all of the tanks that they have are 34 3/4 in or 34 and 1/4 in wide ( can't remember which one) and I need something narrower than that by 3 in If I remember right. Most people forget that the highboy f250's have a narrower frame in the rear that the standard tank won't fit. Mil1ion, I am sure that you know what I am talking about. Any info that you can dig up would be helpful.
as far as using the mustang gas tanks would there be an issue with the filler hose being that it is in the tail end of tha tank as opposed to the side? would it be possible to cut it out and weld it in the side of the tank so that I will be able to use the stock filler neck for my truck in the bed... also what about the possibility of just getting some sheet metal and welding up a tank that would meet my requirements? I would just wonder about the saftey of that... how would I be able to make it so that it would be safe in the event of a collision? as for the mustang tanks being 12 to 14 gal... I saw one that is 22 gal. could I cut it in half and weld in a section of sheet around it to make it deeper... again, so you think that it would be safe?

another thing that I just though of is to get the 38 gal tank and cut 3 in out of the center of the tank to make the width work for me... does anyone think that this would be a good idea? I could also ad some angle brace to the bottom of the tank to make sure that it would be strong enough.... does anyone know what guage some of the tanks are make of?

I'm looking at doing the same thing and I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I have thought about just building a fuel cell and doing it the way I want. I have looked at other gas tank dimensions and found these.
Ford Bronco 78-79: 33 gal. 31 7/8" x 22 1/4" x 14 3/4"
Chevy Blazer/suburaban: 73-81 full size: 28 3/4" x 28 1/8" x 12 3/4" 31 gallons
I have not tried either of those gas tanks. I found those dimensions at
gastanks.com Its a nice site to look at different applications and dimensions.
I going to try and find some used tanks out a of junk yard and try to fit one together.

I have heard somebody say that a ford ranger tank will fit in our Highboys. But I really have no proof. But it is just a suggestion. I have also thought about putting a Dimaond tread plate tool box/Gas tank that you can get out of Northern Tool & Equipment or JC Witney. You are supposed to be able to wire the fuel gauge in and every thing.

The tank from aerotanks.com is probably going to be the best option for a larger capacity tank. You could turn a large capacity bronco tank to fit, but then you have to deal with the filler neck location and also move the rear crossmember to a different location. I'm still researching different options also. I would like to make a ford tank work. I really do not want to be cutting tanks and welding them back together, but I may have to go that route. FYI: I measured between the inside frame rails and it measures 27 3/4 inches.
