here is the history.....got a f700 with no body on the back. bought the truck on the cheap (800 bucks) with a straight body, a new tranny, and 90% tires.....the truck ran good about a year ago. well, when i got to it, the motor would not turn over. they had left the breather off and water ran between the cowl and the hood into the carb....i pulled the plugs and drained the water off of the pistons!....i soaked the cylinders in "kroil" oil, purged and changed the oil. i then put a good carb (holley dp 750) on it(i know, overkill, but all i had)...also has new wires, plugs, cap....still would not run without assistance. pulled the valve covers and found some lifters that where not pumping up....soaked them in "kroil" oil and changed oil again. lifters pumped up...now that yall are up to speed, this is my problem.
motor is hard to crank when cold, cranks okay when warm. right before it cranks (when cold) it acts like it wants to backfire but doesnt....it also still has a bad skip that causes the motor to shake. it will idle, but doesnt make any power and skips hard....any ideals?
Only a guess but what about water seeping past the rings and rusting them stuck. Did you turn it over manually with Kroil in the cylinders and let it sit few days between revolutions? You can always try Marvel Mystery Oil in the oil too but I would be concerned about crap in the cylinders, valve train and intake. Have you checked compression. Hard starting cold could be carburetion or valve train problems. Keep us posted. I'd get something in those cylinders and let is sit a few days manually turning it over periodically before running it.
i am going to check compression again....when i did it the other day, the lifters were not pumping up. the cylinders that had the most water in them, had decent compression....i will try to get another compression done sometime this week.
not as bad as you think....i didnt even find water in the oil! i can see the top of the piston, and i dont see any rust...i used some boat motor treatment a few years agon on a military jeep to get the rings unstuck, i might try it again...the motor really feels like it is missing on several cylinder...
