My new ride!!

It may not be a truck but I figured since we are all Ford Freaks here you guys might like to see my new toy.

She is almost 95% restored and has already won a trophy (2nd place at the all Ford rally in St. Louis). I got it on ebay at what I think was a good price. I suppose since it's a 4dr alot of people wouldn't be interested but I like it and with the 4 doors it makes it alot funner to haul the family around. I am looking for some new wheels for it because I just don't like the truck hubcaps that are on it. He had a nice set of vintage slotted mags on it but I let him keep them to knock $500 of the price so it would be in my price range.

Let me know what you think of it. Good or bad. I am also open to suggestions as to what wheels to put on it. I have a few ideas myself but I thought I would see what everyone else thinks. Keep in mind though that I really can't afford more than around $100 to $150 per wheel.

Later,
Carl

Nice looking car. I like the color too, because my Tbird is also white. For wheels a set of chromes with baby moons would have an old school look. A cheap option would be just a set of Ford dog dish caps and stock rims. A set of crager style mags would also look good. My age may be showing, but the oversize rims only look good on a few vehicles, so I would steer away from them. I've seen too many that look silly with the way oversized rims.

Details

It's a 1967 Galaxie 500 with a H code 390. The engine has had the block bored .030 over and put in new pistons, Melling cam (the "Cobra Jet" equivalent), cam bearings, freeze plugs, oversize valves and new springs. The heads were resurfaced and port matched to a factory 'S' code 4 barrel intake manifold, which was topped with a new Edelbrock 600 carb. A new Accel billet electronic distributor was installed along with an MSD ignition box. 2 1/2" dual exhausts were installed to the stock manifolds.

The body is real good without a bit of rust anywhere. The interior is super clean and looks great. I hope I can show it off to you guys soon but it has been so busy around here that I haven't been able to go to the GTGs. I may enter it in the Halstead show this weekend. My neighbor tells me that the Halstead Old Settlers Days are this weekend and that there will be a car show at it. I am going to have Cory check it out and if I have time I will try to be there with it. Otherwise it's first car show in Kansas will likely be the state fair. I will be at all the shows I can though so look out for it.

As for the wheels, I may not be old but I am old school. I really don't like the look of big wheels. I have been thinking about going for something like these. http://wheelvintiques.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/page17.html
If I do they will be black with probably a baby moon cap. For now I found the old set of caps that I bought for my '69 only to find out they were 15" not 16". They look pretty good on the car at a distance but they are kind of rough up close. I still think they look better than what was on it.

Thanks for the compliments!! I really love this car and will be driving it alot so if you see me going by give me a wave and I hope to see you at the car shows.

Carl

Awesome car man! We'll have to keep in touch...that is if everything works out.
This weekend we might be getting my wife a car...that is to say, we will be getting her a car if it's still there come Saturday morning.

We're looking at a 66 Merc Parklane...a cousin to your new ride. She's got a factory 410 (aka stroked 390), topped with a FoMoCo Four barrel, and tied to a C6. She's in no where near the condition of your car, but has almost zero rust and every last little part from the day she rolled off the assembly line.

SO...we share your excitement! Have fun with her, and certainly let us know if you're bringing her up KC way!

Let me know if you get the Merc. My first car was a '66 Comet Caliente so I really love all the mid 60's Ford products.

Just so everybody knows, the Halstead show is next saturday not this saturday. I plan on having the car there. I am hoping to talk my uncle into letting me put his chrome rims with baby moons on it for the show. I think they would look great on it!

I think the baby moons would look good, especially if you can get a set of white-letter tires too. I don't really care much for aftermarket wheels in general, especially on older cars, and those 22" wheels look ridiculous.

I agree completely Mike. I also have my eye on a set of Fiesta hubcaps on ebay. I always thought they looked good on older customs. The only problem is that I don't have any experience with these old hubcaps and I'm not sure they will fit the stock rims. Will pretty much any 15" hubcap fit any steel 15" rim?

You can check out the caps I'm talking about here.

The trick with the Fiesta hubs is not the size of the wheel, but the shape of the wheel rim will determine whether or not they work. You might ask the seller for a pic of the backside of the hubcap, to see the clamps that will hold it to the rim. You MIGHT be able to tell something then, but I can't say for sure.

BTW: We got her! I've got some pics from when we looked at her (in my gallery), and she looks a lot worse than she is. She'll stay that way for a while though. She's in OK with my uncle, who'll be rebuilding the 410 and carb this winter...then I'll get to the cosmetics. For $650 though, I'm confident she's worth it!
