manual locking hubs

hello! this may be a dumb question, but why do some highboys have small front hubs that look like the half tons and the others are huge? thanks for your time

Most came with the light duty Dana 44 (small hub). Certain years you could get the heavy duty version with the large hub which I believe is a Dana 60 hub and spindle. Other than the Hub, spindle and bearings, all other parts are standard Dana 44 (axles, ring & pinion ect...)

73-75 there were 2 different d44 drum brake front axles for f250 4x4's a 3000 pound with smaller bearings and a 3550 with bigger wheel bearings and the Dana Spicer hub. In 76 and early 77 they got disc brakes and all had the Dana Spicer hub with the 3550 pound rating.
