I have an '03 XLT with about 50,000 on it. When the outside temperature reaches over 100 degrees the Door Ajar light comes on when all doors are closed. This does not prevent the security system from functioning however it does result in the puddle lamps under the exterior mirrors remaining lit for too long.

Let me ask you this question. When you hit the power locks does the lights go out under the mirrors?
Good Question, as with most electrical problems, they are hard to troubleshoot when problem is not present. Currently not an issue. To answer your question, the lights do not go out immediately, however the dome light inside does. When the problem first presented itself I went as far as disconnecting the battery so I would not wake up unable to start the truck. My wife and I went out for dinner last evening when the door ajar light was a problem and watched for a couple of minutes after we used the key fob to set the locks, and they did not go out. They were however off when we returned from our meal. They seem to be reacting to some type of secondary relay at this point.
I had that happen on my '02 just before the warrenty ran out. The error would not allow the drivers door to stay locked when in motion (part of the automatic door locking feature). They had to replace the entire locking mechanicism inside the drivers door. I read later that someone else solved it with a little judicial use of WD-40 in the locking area.
I've had a similar with my 99 since I bought it 5 years ago... The hatchback (entire door, not just glass) locks but the left side is not latched all the way. It looks closed until you look really close. Like most vehicle doors, the latch will hold the door shut but not competely closed if you do not close it firmly enough. I just have to double check the door and give it a little hip-push if I forget to close it hard enough. If it is only partially closed it does light the door ajar light.
