I have a gas 2005 f250 fx4. I plan to put a 6 inch lift on it but first want to start with new rims and tires. I have stock 17 inch rims now. I would like to upgrade to 20's and need to know how big a tire I can go with. Also are there any other modifications needed to change from 17's to 20's. thanks
Not sure if this answers your ?, but my Harley edition came with 20's stock. The mods will depend on the size of tire...With a 6" lift, you can probably go with 35's easily.
at least you can see what the new diamieter, revs/mile are for stock vs. new. you can click 'end' or 'side' to see both diameter and width comparisons. also tells you what it's going to do to your speedo accuracy.

.................
what about without the lift...how big can i go with stock suspension and 20's....??
From what other people on this site have told me as well two shops I've talked to say that on our 05+ Super Duties you can run up to a 35X12.50 without a lift. There are several guys here that have photos in there gallery of doing so, most have a leveling kit though i believe. Biggest issue with the 05's and newer is the finding a rim with the correct amount of back spacing. As for the rim size
the overall diameter is not gonna change whether your running a 20 or a 17
35" is 35" regardless. Width of the tire and the rims backspacing is gonna be the factors in clearance from what I've found out so far... still lacking the coin to do mine but I'll be sure to post some pics when i finally get to. Hope this helps you out some.

not trying to be a smart ***, but 35" may be 35", but 305's, 315's etc are not all the same. my 06 has 275/70/18's that are 33.2" dia. my 03 has 305/70/16's and are 32.8" dia. 305 or 315 is the width, and 70 is aspect ratio or sidewall height. with all the big rims now, a 305/70 on an 18 is 2" dia bigger (35") than a 305/70 on a 16". i don't think they make '35's' for 18 or 20" wheels, pretty sure they are all metric. that link i posted above really helps.
so, looking at my new 06 (anyone want a real clean 03 V-10??) and seeing it has tires that are 33" dia (although skinny and NO tread, they look like they'd lose an argument in a rain storm - will not be on the truck long) i think 315's that are actually 35" OD (aspect ratio depends on rim dia) will fit as long as the offset is correct.
just trying to be helpful, metric tire sizes and these big rims can be a pain.
Thats true all 305's, 315's and such arent going to be the same overall diameter because with metric sizing the rim size does come into play when calculating the overall diameter of the tire. All I was trying to say was... the largest diameter tire we can run on 05+ is a 35" tire wether it be a 35X12.50R20 or a 305/75/R17 both tires are gonna be considered a 35" tire(34.??") and again the rim size doesn't really matter just the side wall of the 35 on the 20" rim is gonna be smaller. Also http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_specsheet.cfm?id=17 does list a 35X12.50R20 so not all the tires for larger rims are gonna be metric.
Should have been a more descriptive in my earlier post sorry if I confused anyone....
hey thanks for the Toyo link, had not checked them! funny, i went to BFG's site last night, and their list of available sizes on their own website is not current. i've found other sizes for the larger dia rims at discount tire's website.
