300/6 to 302 flywheel question

I'd like to swap out my 300/6 for a 302 in my '65 and have a couple questions. First, I know the bellhousing is the same but is the clutch, flywheel, etc? The donor is an auto but the '65 is a 4spd. Second will small block motor mounts from a 65-79 work? I thought I read that all those years are the same from the cab forward, true? I know the 300/6 is a great motor but mines on it's last leg and I can get this 302 cheap and in good shape(cuz I know someone will bring it up ) Thanks-Mike

300/6 to 302 flywheel question

Mike the angled backed 302/351W mounts will work, but the flywheel will not. You need to be very carefull and get the correct 302 flywheel. There are counterweight issues that must be correct.

300/6 to 302 flywheel question

The 302 will be an easy swap. Get a new flywheel, they are not that expensive and well worth it. I found that the 300-6 3spd flywheel is NOT the same as a 302-C4 flywheel. I installed the C4 behind my 300-6 and had to get a flywheel just for this application. 302-C4 flywheel would not work. For anyone doing a manual to C4 swap, be sure to remove the pilot bushing from your former manual transed motor before attempting to bolt the C4 on! I learned about this after lots of head scratching as to why my C4 didn't seem to want to fit! Use the stock pedal filler parts from a automatic 67-72 truck to get rid of your clutch pedal and have it all look "factory" when you are done. This is a true "bolt-in" project!

300/6 to 302 flywheel question

New to forum so info maybe a little late. I Replaced a 240 with a 302 in my 66'. The 302 is internaly balaced so make sure you get the correct flywheel for manual or auto. Manual flywheels seem to be hard to find but the auto are easy and cheap. I think the 300 mounts are the same but I used mounts from a 70s v8 in mine and the whole thing mounted up easy. Motor sits back just a little. Changed rear to a 2.73 and she cruises nice down the hightway as my daily driver. Gunz
