Was the truck refueled while still running?

The loose gas cap indicator is turned on by the PCM when it determines that a refueling has taken place but is unable to pull a vacuum (part of the EVAP emissions test suite) in the fule tank.

You'll need to see if the PCM has stored any DTCs related to this event in order to properly diagnose the fault indicator.

It hasn't been fueled while running in the last couple of weeks, but I have done that before.

It could be caused by a bad gas cap.

found the problem. The hose inside the left front wheelwell that goes to the tank had come loose. Thanks for the suggestions.

Maybe? I had the truck in the bodyshop for repairs and this was found after I got it back.
