I did a little grinding on my exhaust manifolds so the exhaust ports in the heads and the ones in the exhaust manifolds lined up a bit better, but other than that they are stock IDI manifolds.
What was the ignition wire goes to the fuel shut off solenoid and the ignition terminal of the glow plug controller/relay.
Adding the second battery and changing the battery cables will take longer.
The wire from the existing starter solenoid that is going down to the starter will just move over to the trigger terminal on the diesel starter, you can down size the AWG of the wire to a 10 or 12 so it is easier to work with.
I would use the engine harness for the engine, you will just have to do a little adapting on the chassis side of the harness connector.
Whne I installed a 93 engine harness in my 86, the connectors were different, but just a little adapting and all was well.
I will almost bet you are going to be in the same boat.
When you run the wire to the coil to the ignition wire on the engine, it will have to connections to the glow plug relay, cold start timing advance and cold start high idle solenoid as well as the switch that controls the last two already in the engine harness.
The temp gauge wire from both harness needs to be spliced together.
Oil pressure sending unit wires need to be spliced together.
You will not have a "Wait to Start" light or a "Water in Fuel" light in the gasser dash, so those wires are not going to be used unless you add some lights.
The charging wires should be already in the chassis wiring, so no problems there.
I know its a stretch, but i had recently bought a 7.3IDI N/A and was looking for aftermarket headers and it appears that Stan's Headers is the absolute go-to for these motors. Unfortunately, a quick search shows that Stan's is permanently closed. Does anyone know of anyway to get a pair or at least another brand to look at for a quality set of performance headers?
Welcome to the forum,
Dug deep to find this old thread.
I looked through a folder stuff I come across, knew I had one about Headers.
It was Stans Headers only place I had seen them.
