Rattle Rage

O.K. here is my list of rattles. Hopefully you guys can help with some type of fix. By the way, I would do a search, but it is not allowing me to complete a search at the moment. 1. rear slider started to have a hint of rattle. I think i know how to fix this one, but any ideas would be welcome. 2. Front left side, right by the pod that houses the edge evo. I know it is not the edge, because i removed it and still the rattle. If i crack the door open, no rattle, it is only when the door is shut tight. When driving, if i put some outward pressure on the door with my leg, no rattle (this one is driving me crazy). 3. back right door. if i open the door and slightly hit it with my hand, there is a rattle like a cable moving back and forth. I wanted to pull the little black plug that allows you to access the door handle and spray some foam in there, but i am sure it would affect the window being able to slide down.

any ideas on the above would be much appreciated. None of the rattles are extreme, but as you know, it drives me CRAZY. thanks

For the rattle in the drivers door I've done the following. Pop off the pw switches, then tighten up the screws between the armrest and the inside door panel. Also carefully tighten up the 2 screws at the bottom of the plastic door panel. After that take some silicone spray and put it between the metal and plastic parts of the door panel. These tricks have helped get rid of the door panel rattles in my truck. The problem I've having now is headliner rattles. Not just behind the moon roof but at the front, sides and rear of the headliner as well.

I just thought of another source of front door panel rattles. Check the speaker grills and make sure they are tight in the door panel. If they are, don't touch them. If you have already removed them, you might want to check to see if some of the clips have broken off. They are really easy to break even when being very careful. If they grills dont sit tight you might want to put some velcro strips between the grill and the door panel.

ford9c - Thanks for the tips. It sounds like that just might work. I will let you know how it goes. It is not the speaker grill, I think it is what you described above, metal, plastic, and rubber rubbing. thanks again - dustin

I finally found the rattle that was in the driver side door. Like I said earlier, it was comming from somewhere near the Edge Evo pod and only happened when the door was shut. It turns out it was the little rubber gasket(mounted on the door) that compresses when the door is shut to seal the air way to allow air to defrost the side windows. I have removed it temporarily and will probably put some type of clear grease/silicone on it to allow it not to stick and squeak. FINNALLY, this one has been bugging me for a while.thanks for all your help......THIS FORUM ROCKS!!!!!!!

I haven't run into that squeak yet. I usually lube up around the door seals several times a year and I have sprayed silicon on that very seal. Maybe that's why I avoided it. Glad you found the problem.

If the rear slider rattles when open I saw a TSB on it. I think it was to add some tape into the track so as to tighten it up slightly when open.

This one is killing me. It's really bad on cool mornings and goes away when the truck is warm. Makes the truck sound like a cheap car. I'm thinking about taking the dome light out to see if it's a loose cable knocking around. Ford9c or anybody else find a fix for this?

I did find that the sunroof wind deflector was rattling with the sunroof closed. I put some foam around that and it helped. The headliner itself still rattles against the roof and short of filling the cavity with expandable foam I'm really not sure what to do.

OK hears my 3 cents. How about the area above the glove compartment. Its part of the dash. It believe it happens more on hot days.

A special note...

When greasing rubber or poly do not use a petroleum grease!!!!

It will eat the rubber and poly over time.

Use di-electric grease.

Remember this when greasing the brake caliper pins too!!!! It will eat the rubber that covers the sleeves.
