OEM Fog/Driving Lights for 2006 Ranger XLT

I'd like to install OEM driving lights in this truck (they mount in the airdam below the headlights), but Ford doesn't sell a conversion kit. I would need the mounting brackets, wiring harness, a different headlight switch, and the lights of course. Anyone know if this can be done without cutting into the factory wiring - (don't want to void the warranty!) If you know the part numbers I need, I'll buy the beer! Thanks - Chuck

I had my dealer install install factory fog lights in my 04 ranger, it cost 290.00 for the parts, and 100.00 labor. The only thing, they mounted a toggle switch under the dash, instead of putting the factoy switch in the stero heater bezal. But I don't care, I'm going to add a set of hella's to my carr front bumper mount (carr is the manafacturer) I'll just convert to a double toggle switch.

From wanting to install factory fog lights and ending up using some of the wiring on my '94, I can tell you this. Even if you don't have fog lights, the harnesses and wiring is there. You just gotta install the switch (the plug will be behind the placeholder on the dash), the fog lamps themselves (which will require a new air dam probably), and typically a relay in the fuse box and possibly a fuse. Voila, that's all there is to it.

My 04 had knockouts in the valance under the bumper for the fog lights.

Hi Wendell: Yeah, the knockouts are there. No bracket for the foglamps is there however. The airdam is pretty flimsy so I'm guessing that the factory fog lamps would have a bracket or stiffener of some kind. RangerPilot says the wiring was already there on his '94, but there's no wiring present on the '06. I assume there's a plug connection somewhere in the factory wiring harness so that I can do a "factory quality" job. The only other thing I'd need would be the switch. Thanks for the information! - Chuck

There's no plugs or anything near the cutouts in the valance? That's interesting indeed, as every other Ranger I've seen has had them.

Chuck, did you ever get this done? I'd be interested to hear what you ended up doing as I'm interested in doing the same thing.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott: Yes, I did. You wanna do the same thing?? Brace yourself!! I bought the full-blown conversion kit #4L5Z-15200-ABA. My cost: $234.41. The kit includes the wiring harness, relays, switch, splice kit, good instructions, and the WRONG lamp assemblies. As you can tell from the part number, this kit is for an '04 Ranger, but the dealer said the kit would also work with the '06. Aside from lamps, everything works with the '06 Ranger. The lamps and their mounting harness are integral. The '04 lamps mount completely differently from the '06 models. Long story short - I bought a set of '06 fog lamps separately - #6L5Z-15200-AA (and BA) for $30.52 apiece. I installed the harness and the lamps myself. Took me about 4 hours - if you're more mechanically adept, you can probably do it in 3. One good part - leave out the splice for the steering column harness and the fog lamps will stay on, even when you turn on the high beams. Factory installs cut the fog lamps when you hit the high beams. I don't like that. One bad part - the switch itself is a rocker-type. It's a clean mount, under the dash but I'd rather have the switch that's integral to the factory headlight switch. But, I can live with it.

Maybe Ford has a "6L" kit now that will work with the '06 Ranger - you might check that out.

IMHO, this install beats a cheesy aftermarket setup. But, if I had it to do over again, I'd just order a truck with the fog lamps. However, I wanted immediate delivery with a limited slip differential. I couldn't have it all. Good luck!

(Yeah, too much information!)

I checked for the 06, and Ford still as no kit listed for the 06.

from the picture the fog lamps themself look to have the brkt all together with the lamp. so if no loom is there, a new loom, left and right fog lamp and a switch is the only option as thechuckster has stated.

Chuck,

Thanks for that info, it's exactly what I was looking for. I searched for that part number online and the description says "Lights, Fog For 4X4 Vehicles". My ranger is 2006 2WD XL Supercab, does that matter?

Ed, can you post a link to the picture of what you're talking about?

Thanks,
Scott

Ed,

Just making sure I understand all this.

So that diagram is for the 2004 lamp with mounting bracket that would come with the kit (#4L5Z-15200-ABA) that Chuck referred to? And the kit would also come with the required wiring/relay/switch. Then I'd also need a set of 2006 lamps/brackets because the 2004 lamps mount differently? And all this should work for my 2006 Ranger XL 2WD?

Thanks,
Scott

Scott: I have a 2006 XLT SuperCab. As long as you have the same airdam with the knockout plugs (where the fog lamps go) you should be fine. It'd sure be nice if your Ford dealer would trade you out of those lamps that come with the kit. (It'd lessen the pain, anyway). Mine will go on eBay when I get around to it. Good luck - let me know how you come out! - Chuck
