going out on the beach as noob

Hey guys I just wanted a little insight from you experts, I'm going to be going to Outer Banks NC and I wanted to know what I should do, to take my 02 Explorer out on the beach. I tried the search but I really didn't find any info. I know that I have to lower the air preasure, but how much do I lower it. I will have a tow strap and a shovel. thanks for the help!!

Airing down depends on your tires. I run around 5-10 in my iroks. I wouldnt recomend you do this with most other tires. Probly 20 psi for you. As long as your sidewalls bulge down, youve gained surface area.

airing down helps a lot as well as taking it easy and doing your best not to spin tires. if you do spin stop immediately or you will be using that shovel. lockers can help but too expensive to get just for a trip like that. also a decent set of aggressive tires would help but again too spendy for such a small usage. take some stuff like maybe a couple of boards you can throw under the tires in case you do get bogged down. just be smart about it and dont get too cocky

ive seen where in sand, putting your floor mats almost up under your tire will sometimes help, but not saying it wont ruin your mats. maybe if you know someone who has some old businesss front door mats that might help

Where in the Outer Banks are you going?......I just got back from Portsmouth Island (just south of Ocracoke Island) and an outstanding fishing trip. I have 265s on my crew-cab F250, and I put them down to 30psi from the normal high of 80psi.......You're on a shorter wheelbase vehicle, and depending on the natural width of your tires, anywhere from 15psi to 25psi should be fine. if you're going to the area of Hatteras, Duck, Corolla, Avon, etc.....then look out for the vehicle entrances through the dune line......scattered all the way down Highway 12. The sand at these vehicle entrances is deep as hell, and because numerous vehicles pass through there...especially during the heavy fall fishing season...it's chewed up and rutted. You'll definitely need to flatten the tires a bit to keep from bogging down. Most of these entrances through the dunes have signs posted recommending your psi. Good Luck..
