2012 Superduty pinion nut

How in the heck do you get it off? I've never fought a pinion nut this much and it won't budge.

I've used a breaker bar and a pipe on the end of that for leverage. It worked on my old 97 f150.

you need a 2 jaw gear puller to remove the flange off the pinion gear per Ford Workshop DVD. You are suppose to use a pinion flange installer tool to "press" the flange back on. The torque value of the new nut is 470 ft/lb. The driveshate is 75 ft/lb when bolting back to the pinion flange.

Ok but how in the hell do you get the nut off? I had a 3/4 impact on it and it didn't budge. I know how to get the flange off

you probably need to make a tool to bolt to the pinion flange to hold it still. Ford has a tool that is used for this purpose. It holds the pinion and make it immobile.

Try to expand the stake mark from the nut. Heat the nut gently to help release the thread locker. After that you should be able to pull it off with a 1/2 inch gun. You might be able to reuse the nut but being you will have to stake it again it's better to replace it. What's the reason for tear down?

He won't get the right pre-loading doing it that way. Over crush the sleeve
and that will be problems down the road. Under crush it and your have
the problems much sooner.

That's where I was going with that also, to do it right the crush sleeve should be replaced. If you are careful you can usually get by without replacing it by putting the nut back to where it was but you need to check the preload reguardless. I've done it that way and so have countless others and nobody has crashed into a bus full of nuns or a truck load of baby seals. I'm going to actually suggest you try that way first because I don't think you are going to remove the sleeve without pulling the pinion not to mention you are only going to get one through special order at the dealer
