Looking to purchase pre-2001 F350 Dually diesel, information of preffered years?
I currently have a 1989 F350 w/460, single rear wheel, 4x4 crew cab, and need to get back into a diesel truck, with a higher load capacity (for a camper).
I need to get a dually F350 and would like the most reliable and most preffered model year for this truck pre-2001/2002..
The help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Rick Fine

This is a good forum for this question because it covers more than just a specific production date.

Years ago, I had a 1991 7.3, non turbo, that was my last Ford Diesel (every car I have owned in the last 20 years has been a Mercedes Diesel).
As I said earlier, I can't afford new, and would like to know the prefered model years/models pre-2001. And if it makes any difference in the model years, the prefered Diesel 1 ton dually.
Again, thanks for the informative responses

ok, i will give my opinion, i think you should go with a 1994-1997 psd. there are plenty out there and to me are a good deal for what you get. plus the money you save on the newer one is money you can put back into the older one to fix the little things in it.
i myself later this year will be in the market for a second car/play truck. i am most defintly going to get a 1994-1997 f350 standard cab psd, to me those are the best year trucks ford ever made. (talking newer stuff here everyone)

Having owned three, there are definate advantages and disadvantages.
The most comfortable to drive was my '91 single cab.
I'm 5'8" and the cab was just the right size for my short frame.
My 95 was great, a little bigger, and not as comfortable as the '91 was.
My current truck is an F-550. It's a tank and the most capable truck I have ever driven, period. But the driver's seat is too big for my short legs, the seat rubs the back of my calves and makes it awkward to operate the clutch. I'm in the market for some of those wedge shaped seat cushions that you can lean against.

I had a '96 powerstroke with a 60hp chip, stock intake and exhaust with the 5 speed standard tranny. I bought it with 80,000 miles and ran it to 240,000 pulling and hot rodding all the time. The poor thing never got proper maintenance either. Sold it to my little brother who put another 60,000 HARD miles on it, then sold it to my dad who put one of his hands in it to pull a skidsteer and this thing is STILL going strong! Only thing we had to do was replace factory dual mass flywheel with aftermarket one. Iwould definitely recommend one of the early ones.
