Blend Door?? A/C Problem 97 LD F250 5.4 4wd

Hi,

Here's the prob.

Fan works all speeds.

Air barely blows out. Hot or cold.

I replaced the blower motor resistor and that didn't do anything.

You can feel some cool air coming thru. It's just not blasting out like it should.

What do I do next?

Thanks. Brian

Sounds like your doors in your main ducts may not be opening or closing properly.

That's what I'm thinking but I don't know how to check that.

My 94 Ranger did the same. But that was a cable that was un hooked.

I don't think this truck is cable operated.

the temperature **** controls a motor that mixes hot and cold air to get the right temp. does not effect the volumn of air.---- the selector **** is vacuum control over a couple vacuum cylinders that move air doors and send the air to the defroster or the vents or the floor. again this directs the air but does not control the volumn.--- does the fan run at high speed? can you hear it change speed?--- maybe the fan bearings are dragging and not allowing the fan to spin up to speed?--- i had a mouse build a nest in the duct 20 years ago and block the air out of the fan, thats another possibility?

Thanks Steve,

The fan seems to be working fine at all speeds. I've got cold air blowing out of my defrost vents pretty strongly and sort of at the floor.

But not at the dash.

I removed the center bezel and pulled the switch panel out, undid the right **** with the vacuum block and I'm not detecting any suction.

Are there some relays under the hood that could be bad?

My repair manual doesn't cover this.

I'm going back outside now to fiddle some more.

GOT IT!!

Small black vacuum line that sits next to the battery had become brittle and a bit corroded from its location next to the negative terminal.

Pulled off the boot and the broken end, slid boot back on to hose then on to vacuum relay mounted to inner fender.

Good as new.

While you didn't mention it (or maybe you hadn't noticed it), your air was actually coming out the defrost vents instead of the panel vents. The airflow didn't just disappear...

This is a very common problem and you found the most common failure.
