Hey guys, I am trying to find the right trailer wiring for my 77 f-150 4x4. I am looking for the kind that tees into my original harness. I also need the round plug. Does anyone know where I can buy the kit? Will a kit for a newer f-150 work, if so what years? Thanks.
i'm pretty sure you won't find any adapter to fit a truck of that year.
you'll have to splice into your wiring and hard-wire your trailer connections.
(i'm in the same boat, with an '82 E350 - no plug-n-play adapters available...)
According to these folks, there is a plugin harness that will fit a 1973 to 1979 F-Series Truck. They don't have a cart but they give you a number from Hoppy.
That will get you a four pin flat connector. To get the round adapter, you can get what's called a 4 to 7 adapter. That will plug into your four flat connector and leave you with a 7-way RV-style connector. You'll need to run wires for your brake controller, 12 volt power supply for the trailer, and backup lights to finish it off.
amazon has 'em: https://www.ford-trucks.com/lc/lc.ph...part%3D40105hm, i had always assumed my '82 van used the same connectors as the previous generation pickups, but i guess that's not the case. mine don't look like that at all...
