Killing the door chime

Killing the door chime
I've seen a lot of advice on broken door chimes. I just got a 98 and the chime works just fine. That's the problem I have with it.
What is the best way to disconnect this little guy?
I'd prefer not having to pull the ignition cylender out, but if it must be done, then so be it. Disconnecting this is the first thing we've done to every car we've bought that's had one in it. It's driving me absolutely insane.

The "mod" to be performed depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
If you want to disable the chime so you can leave the door open while the key is in the ignition, you can do this by clipping the proper wire under the ignition cylinder.
If course, the dome light will still stay on. There is a separate mod that can be done to add a switch to the DOOR OPEN switch so the GEM module cannot tell the door is open. Of course, you can just manually activate the lock with a key so the switch is made, just remember to work the latch mechanism before attempting to close the door (THUNK!).

Well we have progress. Pulling the switch from the ignition cylinder was a start. I tossed it up in there in some electric tape. Now the door can be open with the key in and off and there will be silence. There are still a whole host of other things that will cause it to make noise, including opening the door in ACC mode.
Bypassing the door switch isn't a bad idea, but it's not what I'm looking for. I want that module silent, permanently.
Then again I'm probably one of the few people that liked the high beams on the floor, the wipers on the dash, the hazards on the bottom of the steering column, and manual hubs.
