My turn for questions.

Has any one else run into this?

After the accident with "Christine" i was so wound up i moved the truck from in front of the garage to allow the ambulance access. Well i wailed a loading dock head on with the front end. It snapped the tail shaft of the C6 off of the mount cracking the case. "Yes it hit that hard"

Well i have five spare transmissions and took the rear tail shaft off of a 460 big block unit taken from an 84 ambulance. Well this tail shaft is one full inch shorter than the 88 F250 tail shaft housing.

I went to all my other spares and all have varing legenths. I have four Big block C6s and one FE all are either the inch short of about 1/2 inch shorter.

Seeing as i made the drive shaft to fit the longer tail housing i thought i would ask if any one else has run into this?

Looks like another trip to the yard to locate a rear housing.

garbz2 I don't have the answer, but this may help, I went out and measured

the tail shaft on a C-6 (small block trans) that I have sitting around and it

measures (tailshaft 13 3/4) this may help! Also maybe someone installed

the small block C-6 tail shaft on your big block C-6 trans?

P.S. I hope your son is doing a lot better!

Garbz, I would think that the driveshaft would be able to handle a half inch difference, with no problems.

Well

The 13" unit is too loose and the shaft wiggles in the bushing. There is a good inch of clean showing.

With the old unit i had Zero play. The end bushing could be worn? A possibility in this tailshaft housing.

I also have 2 differing types of seals, the 88 unit had a seal with extended dust shield and the 84 one has a short seal with just a lip. I can phisically move the tailshaft slip yolk up and down..Not good.

Ahhhh, More issues than a half inch of length.
