I think we need to know engine, trans and gearing info. As well as cab config. and 4x4 or 4x2.

All the salesman said was that it's a v8 4x4. We're looking to buy a truck to pull a 5th wheel. The dry weight of the camper is 6880 and the salesman said a 1/2 should pull it without any problems as long as we're not going cross country with it. Some people tell us a 1/2 will do it and others tell us we need to get a 3/4 ton truck. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Lori

Lori, A F250 would be better choice to handle that much weight. I would hook that trailer to my half ton, but if I were looking to buy a truck based on pulling the trailer a F250 with it's larger brakes and springs would be in my future.

The max tow ratings on those trucks is about 7000, from my 1994 owners manual, with V-8, automatic and 3.55 gears, which almost all of them have. Your trailer weight will quickly exceed that when you load everything up. Also that maximum assumes only a driver, no passengers or anything else in the truck. A 4x2 F-250 with a 7.5L would be far happier.

Thank You everyone!!! I'm going to pass on the 1/2 ton and start looking at 3/4 ton trucks!
