Whats everybody doing for audio?
Allright, I've had it with this damn headunit... It's cool, because it has CB built into it.... but other then that, its junk. Two ***** of raw crap...
The internal amp is shot (i think), because it distorts very easily, and not to mention that it needs a "love tap" to make it play sometimes.
I want to put a din sized headunit in the truck. Heres some pictures

What I want to avoid is the gap between the headunit, and the bezel...
There's also no mounting points left in the dash, so I'll have to make a mount... I was thinking of cutting a peice of 1/2" MDF to fit the the bezel, cutting a din sized opening, and then epoxying that to the back of the bezel... so it has about 5/8" of mounting surface on the frount, and then either strapping it to the dash, or making a MDF mounting plate... but we'll see
Can somebody help me?
tks alot

If it's that, a radio repair shop can repair it pretty easy.

Get the DIN mount out of the 1985 or 1986 as well.
Just some ideas.

I assume the din mount is held in with screws. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
SO THEY DID HAVE DIN BEZELS!!!
1980 to 1984 had the radio shaft mount, and two round holes in the bezel for the shaft to go through, and the center hole is more square.
The radios in the 1985 and 1986 did not have the shafts, and the hole isn't as tall, but it's a lot wider, in a rectangle shape.
Sort of like the difference between regular and widescreen tv, but not quite.
I also know some of the 90's Ford style radios will fit the 85 and 86 respectfully, with minor rewiring. So that might be an option too.

Ok, heres something that I can contribute to your information base.
The modern DIN openening is 2"x7" The old two **** setup isnt
Modern radios come in 3 standard sizes... Din, 1.5 Din, and 2 Din... 1.5 and 2 din headunits are usually extreamly high end, or have a TV built into them
The woodgrain in my truck is darker then what I'm seeing on ebay for the 85 and 86 bezels, but I'll live with it, if I can find a junkyard one.
To the junkyards come monday, if I can find a din mount/bezel, I'll buy it, and have tunage later this week...

Also of some interest. I've seen a 1981 Ranger XLT Radio Delete Bezel at the junkyard before. No radio hole at all and woodgrain. Talk about rare eh?
Possibly an option if you find a radio delete one. Never seen one before or since. so...
Oh, the 1985 to 1999 F-600 trucks also had a DIN style radio that should fit in our trucks, with minor wiring. The Bezel will fit too, but it would be black, and/or have an enlarged top section for accessories or clipboard mounting, where the clock normally would go. If you wouldn't mind that.
Hope all this helps.
