change a 6 volt to a 12 volt on a 52
Is it possible to change from a 6 volt to a 12.
I would like to put in a newer CD player and speakers in my truck.
Are there kits available for this?
Is it difficult...how much needs to also be updated?
I know pretty much nothing...so any help is appreciated.

This is how I've done many early 50's Ford cars. Your truck will be no different. Just make sure your original wiring is in good condition. Your 6volt wiring is heavier guage than 12 volt wiring so if it's in good order it will do just fine on 12 volt.
You'll need a 12v battery that fits your tray. A 12 volt ignition coil. a ballast resistor or an ign. coil with a built-in resistor. All the bulbs. A 56 Ford 12v voltage regulator. 12v flasher if you have turn signals. Standard ign/ Borg Warner part# VRC-603 cluster voltage reducer.
The cluster reducer splices into the wire that comes off your ign. switch & goes tothe guage cluster to power up your guages.
The 56 Ford regulator is a direct replacement for your stock 6v unit. If your stock generator is working now there is no need to change it. Generators are stupid. They will charge whatever voltage you throw at them, so the 12v regulator is all you'll need for the charging system. Don't buy into all the talk about having the generator rewound or field coils installed.
Reverse the battery cables so it will be negitive ground & also be sure to polarize the generator before you start the vehicle for the first time.
I've never had a problem doing it this way.
