Yep ..I know quite a few guys that run scat cranks in there 460" + Strokers, and run them in there Fox bodied cars, making 750-800hp, and even thro in a 250hp shot of giggle gas to boot and thee still holding together..
But also there running either a 429 4 bolt main motor or a splayed main cap motor, or an after market block..
And Barry, I think the difference in your FE stroker kit and AW's are the slugs....I believe at the $1650 price he use's Probe slug's, Where I think you use Eric's Diamonds?
I havent run any Diamond slugs year to date..But I have run the Probe's with very good results...And plus the Probe's fit a country boys wallet better.....LOL..
I can supply either.
I'm WD for all - - Scat, Probe and Diamond.
Probe only has pistons for the 410 and 428 combos.
Diamond has everything....
And I will match Adney as required...
Oh - - as a poor guy, I've been known to polish a turd to a very high gloss
Well Hell Barry!! Cant beat that deal with a stick!! LOL..
I know the last time I talked to Glenn," FFRCobra" he had mentioned..He was planning on buying either the Genissis or the Pond block? I forget which...and a rotating aasy from you..he said you came up with a real good price for him..
Thats nice to know you'll match price's..That meens alot to us Poorboys.. I wish Glenn would hurry up and build that sideoiler..So I can use it in my test mule until he gets done with his Cobra?? LOL..
Barry; a true statement $750 vs $2,000, I don't want to cause any trouble or argument but for an extra $1,250 vs the total price of a custom built motor that $1,250 is a small added amount. If someone is building a custom stroker with limited funds they should stay stock with quality parts, it costs to play.
Barry you are the one that built the 676hp Dinosaur? Wow I still look at that article and dream often lol. I even wrote a letter to Hot Rod asking them to find out which valve covers those are, but without reply? Anyhow I just wanted to pay my respects to an awesome engine and builder for that matter. Thanks for helping keep the FE popularity strong and alive... Stan
EDIT: So your website is the survival motorsports website then?
I have a question about putting a 428 crank in my 390. I was wondering what length rod and piston height do I need to run to make it all happen. I'm looking for around 10.5-11 to 1 CR, and I'm topping it off w/ a set of C1AE - 6090 Heads. any guidance would be awesome guys, thanx!
Compression would be in the 10.2-10.5 range with a flat top (6cc) at 72cc chamber volume heads.
Uses normal FE 6.49" rods - OE or Scat
Available forged pistons are Diamond or Probe - nice parts - nice motor
I would really watch the CR above10 to 1 unless your running a gas mix? or your cam is going to eliminate some Ccompression? Or your going to go to Aluminum Heads?
no, as I mentioned before I am running a set of 61' cast heads, but I am doing some port work to them down at school while I have acess to the flowbench. and of course machining a bunch of other places on them, cuz they need it!, The gas I run should not be an issue.....if I have to run some 110 octane or so, well that's okay. BTW, not a daily driver.
The cam I currently have is a comp, Magnum 270 grind, nothing crazy at .519 lift both E, and I, and 224 duration at both. if I remember corectly the seperation is 110 degrees. will this make much of a difference on my compression?
well first off I am just a beginner at this. I mean I'm not even outa college yet!..lol, I'm sure static numbers aren't all that matters, I just figured upwards of 11:1 would the end of 93 octane. correct me if I am wrong, but I would like to be able to run 93 pump gas w/ my timing backed off, then when I get my hands on some race gas from down the street when I really wanna open her up, I can advance my timing. I was figuring 10.5:1 would be a close guess. but please do correct me if I am wrong here! Thanx!
i did the same thing about 3 years ago. put a 428 crank in a 390. turned out real nice. i used the origional rods and a 390 flat piston ended up with about 9.5-1. i run pump gas. i also built a costom roller rocker system for it using big block chevy rockers, the cam is a fairly agressive cam. it really rips and snorts actually. i also have a 4.25 SCAT stoker if you are interested. i was going to built it but probly wont get around to it and if someone else wants it i can swing them a deal

Yes and yes. That motor is being reinstalled in my '69 Torino as we speak(actually just wiring and linkage hookup now). With a CNC ported set of Blue Thunder heads it is now at 712HP on the dyno at Wheel to Wheel Powertrain. Not quite as strong as the EMC piece - - but it ought to be able to sputter down the track OK...
The valve covers on that one were factory "no snake" 428CJ - - Blue Thunder makes a similar but not identical version.
The Survival site is indeed mine.
The gentleman's 416 project will be OK at the 10:1 range on 93 octane, but I'd personally like to see a little more cam in there. Can you cc the heads at school? That would give some really important info.
well the cam is jsut what I had in there when I used to run the motor in the Bronco I swapped it into, and now I wanna go bigger and better w/ it.....a new cam probly will go in it....I wanna go roller tho....to match the roller rockers I wanna find, and run. and fab up my own dry sump oiling setup too.....once I am done w/ the porting and suck on the ports and clean up the CC's, and a new valve job, w/ hardened seats, I'll cc them and get back to ya, but that won't be for anther 2 months or so....I'm home on a one week vacation right now.
