Rebuilding a 1991 302 V8.. need suggestions on aftermarket parts.
Hello all,
First of all my 302 v8 had some issues over the weekend.
the back driver's side cylinder has NO compression,
the truck is off idle because of this (naturally) and is lacking in power now.
The truck has over 184K miles on it, but it is in great shape.
I want to rebuild the engine since was lacking/not up to par in Horsepower, even before this happened this weekend.
The 5.0L was a beast when I put the first 150K miles on it. WHAT AN ENGINE!
Anyways, stuff breaks down over time, that is the way it works!!!!
I want to try to rebuild the engine up to par for driveablity.
I also would like to build an engine that could run another 200K miles and have power and reliablity AS well as fuel economy!!!!
DARN GAS PRICES!
I am thinking of giving the 302cid engine:
- a set of headers (coated in JETHOT!)
- new aluminum cylinder heads (any suggestions what kind for more HP? and NOT to much in the ways of torque).
- maybe some roller rockers?
- Kieth Black pistons?
- new intake?
- I do have a Jaccobs mileage master ignition, from my V6 258cid Jeep engine I could use on this 302cid engine...
I know the stock 302 EFI engine was about 185 HP stock? (am i correct?)
What type of power gains would I be seeing if I added some or a couple of these upgrades?
Again, I am looking for RELIABLE horsepower, as well as MPG!
I love this place!

Oh ya, I am thinking of upgrading the brakes as well...
any bolt-on kits for the stock front disk brakes?
Like bigger calipers and rotors?
let us start with the engine first though...any tips would help me alot.
or any stories of doing the same with a similar 87-91 302 EFI engine!

Just a tip $$$ wise. I have found that the Ford Motorsport GT40 reman. engine is a bargain. It comes with a warranty and they only use the best parts. These are done by AER Mfg. and I have seen how they build these, top shelf. Check with your local Ford store or www.discountfordparts.com you might be surprised about how cost effective this engine is when you consider machining, parts and assembly.

Do you have an exact link to this website?

Sorry, I was sleeping on the response request....
Depending on where you are located they are available through any Ford Motorsport dealer. I got mine from Grand Prairie Ford in Texas. Did you try their website? www.discountfordparts.com
