Oil leak on a 400

I have a 400 in an 80 Bronco. It has about 12,000 miles on the engine. I have an Edelbrock intake, and I have been getting an oil leak at the back of the intake every since it was installed. Not a bad leak, just a puddle in the valley around the sending unit. I pulled the intake yesterday to try and stop the leak. I removed the vally pan gasket and just went back with 2 seperate gaskets. I used the RTV on the front and back and in the corners.
Guess what? I still have the same leak. Any tips anyone could give would be appreciated. http://www.clark1.com/Bronco/home.htm

I assume that since it is around the oil pressure sending unit that you did check the sending unit as well. It is quite common for people to suspect the intake when it is in fact leaking around the sending unit. Good luck!

Well, that did cross my mind, but now that I have driven it again today and oil is dripping out worse, I am sure it is coming from the intake.
I will have to pull it all back off.
Anybody got in secrets to sealing the back.
The directions with the manafold say to not use the front and back gaskets
I must have not used enough RTV.

usually it depends on the gap that is there...it can vary depending on what has been milled or plained..

Dry fit the manifold and check the gap. Make sure the bead of silicone is high enuf to seal the gap. Too much silicone can squish out, break off, and stop up the oil pump intake. Small particles of gasket sealant have jammed oil pumps before.

There is a very slight chance you may also have warped the manifold by bolting it down with seals that were too thick. Check the flanges with a straight edge.

I'm going to pull it back off Friday.
Thanks for all the advice.
I'm sure I was just too conservative with the RTV.
I'll post the results as they become available.

Unhappy

OK, well the second time is definitely not the charm.
This time I used the turkey pan and the little black gaskets that come with it.<O</O
Now I have parts of the gasket that have been cut off when I torqued the intake.<O</O
Still leaking of course.<O</O
Maybe I will go back to just silicone on the ends.

Maybe not what you want to hear but when I put my Eddy intake on my 400 a couple of months ago I tossed the rubber gaskets immediatly and used high temp silicone and I haven't seen any leaking.

What kind of RTV did you use.
I've been trying the black, but I heard that the red works good.
I think I will pull it one more time and just use RTV on the ends.
Does it need to go on both sides of the turkey pan or just the bottom between the block and the pan?
