it all depends. if it is taken care of an maintained OPTIMALLY, it should get well over 500,000 miles to an engine. even then, it wont "blow up" as you say. however it will be extremely worn out, and in need of a rebuild. the transmission (automatic) and body are another story. automatic transmissions are usually crapping out at 150,000-200,000 miles. some less, some more. it all depends on how you drive it. the body and cab is good, however i have seen few outlast an engine. if you are ***** to the wall all the time and "forget" to maintain and show some love to your truck, it will cost you. why do you ask?

It all depends on its maintainance and how it is treated - but there's no reason they can't go 3-400,000 - heck even 500,000 miles!

You may try looking back through old posts - but there was a hugh thread a while ago where everyone posted the year of their truck, and the mileage - I was suprised at the ammount of high-milage PSD's here on the forum!

Edit: Welcome to FTE!!

I suppose you COULD get one to throw a rod with less than 500 miles on it......... have to work at it really hard and include water ingestion.

I hear 250,000 as typical before the owner gets nervous and some have gotten 400,000 and more. The commercial IH trucks claim 500,000 MTBF.

your mileage may vary

I've got 150K on mine, and the last 50K haven't exactly been babying it. I do however keep up on my maintence of it. The last oil analysis I had done showed that the engine was in very good condition. So, even though you may be hard on it, with proper care, they will last a long time.

But, I'm curious too...why?

What is going on here? One post, one fairly odd question, and no reply. I'm gonna get 500.000 out of mine. If I can live long enough. Not likely though, the condition I am in, I wake up every morning surprised I am not dead.

JT, just curious, where do you send in your oil to get it analyzed? This is something that interests me-
