98' F150 4x4 4.6 low idle IAC??
1998 F150 4x4 4.6 Automatic
I have read post after post but they dont exactly fit what my truck is doing. When I come to stop lights or stop signs, or even when i put it into gear it idles real low like its about to stall. Hasent stalled yet. And then other times it seems fine. But it does it more then it dont. So does this sound like a IAC problem?
I had the main power wire break where it hooks to the startor last night and i put a new end on the wire and fixed that. Then some how it smoked my battery (orignal battery) wouldent hold a charge. installed a new battery last night too.
My question is could my idleing problem have anything to do with that.
Or did some how this happed at the SAME time?
Thanks

The low idle did happen after the cable broke. its weird because it idles just fine when its in park. I have remote start and it starts right up with no problem and idles great. It did it again on the way to work this morning when i come to a stop light. I dont think it will stall but it idles at about 400. It doesnt do it all the time, like this morning when i was sitting there at the light it idled low at first then idled normal. It jumps around when you sitting there in gear sometimes. Can i clean the IAC to see if thats the problem before i buy one?
I'll try unhooking the battery today and see when i get.
Thanks for the replys

Sounds to me like it's the IAC. I was told I could clean mine but that it would just delay the inevitable, so I bought one.
Mine would idle fine in park but real low in drive. It would stall only if the ac compressor wasn't engaged.
Funny thing, mine started acting up after I replaced the battery. But the IAC valve was full of crud also. Coincedence I guess.
