Are there any performance shifters (ie B&M, Hurst) for the 5sp auto in a 2004. I'm a little partial to floor shifters, but I can't find any for a 5sp. Would it be possible to use a 4sp shifter, since the shift to OD is electronic? Maybe put a switch on the shifter console for the OD? Thanks for your help.
Never thought about that. I'd suggest giving the bigger companies a call, see if they make anything that fits your application. I haven't seen anything for the five speed auto though. On the other hand, I'm willing to bet there's a shift kit out there somewhere for it.
Give JC Whitley a call or browse their website (www.jcwhitley.com) and see if you can come up with anything.
As for your idea about using a 4 speed shifter and wiring a switch up for OD; I don't see a reason it couldn't be done, but I drive a stick for a reason, wait for somebody with a little more auto knowledge to let ya know on that one.
Dave, the after market is a little light for the ranger, the good news is, now that the mustang has the 4.0, business should pick up. If the 4.0 mustang auto is a 5 speed, then I'm sure shifters will be comming. You may have to build a console to get the shifter up so you can reach it, if it's made for a car.
