Ouch!!

Well I just got back from a test ride of my 48 after replacing the carb. I also just put in new points and did a good tune up and oil change. All of this was done in anticipation of going to the Street Rod Nationals East in York Pa. on Friday. The truck was running excellent when I stopped for a stop sign to make a right and begin the 5 mile trip back home. That's when it happened. My truck got rear ended by a young lady in her new Nissan. Nobody got hurt (which is really the important thing) but my nice custom roll pan along with the lower bed and tailgate took all the impact. I'll still make it to York but will not have time to do much in the way of repairs. Does any one have a website or number of a company that makes a roll pan for a 50-52 bed?

Sorry to hear about your mishap.

That is why I'm a big proponent of front and rear bumpers. Had you had a rear bumper on your truck, you probably only would have suffered scratches.

Glad to see that everyone is alright.
Carpenters should have what you need.
I don't know about anywhere else, but it's the Law to have bumpers here in CA.
IF you'd have had your bumpers inplace, as installed @ the Factory, the Rice Rocket would've had to be Towed away, you'd be not having to replace all those parts & you'd be Styling @ the Show instead of Sporting a Bruised Bum.

Jim, that's a major bummer. Sorry to hear about it. I'm glad all the people are OK, now you just need to fix the property damage. The good news is that you're still here to do it.

WOW! That really sucks! I'm very glad to hear that everyone was ok. I was recently rearended in my 2005 F-150. The truck that plowed into me had to be towed away. I drove away but the initial estimate at the body shop is $5000.

I recently started driving my 49. I think I'll make it a priority to get my bumber and reciever hitch in place.

Good luck getting it put back together

Sorry to hear about your lousy luck. I would never consider driving my truck without front and rear bumpers...

Looks like something a metal shop could roll for you pretty easily, if they had the old one for a pattern. Maybe adapt a '53-56 roll pan?

BTW I think our trucks are almost the same color(s)!

Try Dan Carpenter Specialities in Norwood North Carolina. They make all new beds and imo they are the best out there.

Sorry to hear 'bout your truck.

That maybe so, in your Opinion, but they keep your truck from being Damaged in such a way as what happened to our friend here.
Plus, in most states it's Illegal to drive w/o them.

Just as likely to bend your frame getting hit on a bumper....

That's news to me that it's a law to have a rear bumper on a truck. It's for sure not enforced anywhere I've been.

Believe what you wish, my '58 M-100 has been banged into by Ricer Drivers a few times & I them, but because of the "Wee Beasties" Bumpers, they've come out on the Short-end of the stick everytime & I've only had to remove the paint &/or rubber marks that they left behind.
I've seen it Enforced, but it is Low Priority.

It depends on the bumper. The polished SS bumpers are nice. Besides, functionality and safety trump looks...and I'm a darksider for Pete's sake.
