Instead of worrying about what Toyota and GM are doing, Ford should just focus on making the F-150 the best truck it can be.
Quality, reliability, comfort and innovation are whats going to keep the F-Series on top, not propaganda.

Maybe Ford could offer customer what they want; instead of telling them what they need. (I do not live to keep-up-with-the-Jones and don't care if my neighbor has a Hemi.) For example, I want a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton pickup as a third vehicle. I want to buy new so that I know the maintenence history. I want drive-it and forget-it dependability. I want great gas mileage with an under-drive for the few times I need extra pulling power. I need few creature comforts because this will be a work truck. I don't need power windows, MP3 stereo, double-wall bed, 22-inch allow rims, "High Alpine this-or-that option packages, or heated AM/FM antenna (LOL). I want a bulletproof truck to hand down to my son in six or seven years and buy me a new one. Then I want to hand that one down to my daughter and buy yet another. But this won't happen if each of them cost me $45k.

So, since Ford won't make a truck like that for me. I'll keep buying some used, usually not Ford, worn-out piece of junk every 4 years instead of spreading the good word-of-mouth advertizing about my great, basic, new Ford trucks. BTW-I am restoring a 1958 F-100. I am a loyal Ford driver.

Whether or not I understand it, the Lincoln pickup is a run-away winner in this part of the world. I have to assume that a loaded-up F150 costs the same as or similar to the Linc because of the '06's I have seen about 1 in 5 seems to be a Linc., wayyy out of proportion it would seem.

I like old pickups, one you could take bird hunting, or move with, without having a conniption every time you get a scratch on the plastic burl or mud on the carpet. But someone is sure buying up those Lincs...Toyota got nothing on them!

dave58-i agree, ford should just make a heavy duty truck that has the basics, and should offer some sort of suv that is basic also, like come back with something that looks like an old bronco (the small old ones)

and make the things easier to work on! i look at mine with a goofy look on my face everytime i even think about doing something to it.

the only reason i even bought mine was because i always wanted a shortbed, supercab diesel heavy duty truck(with a straight front axle). i wish they would have had it offered in 1995.

They do, it's called the F250/F350 XL

how cheap do you guys want a truck anyways? You can pick up the above truck in 4x4, regular cab long bed with diesel motor for around $30K...probably under that, but I haven't checked in a while. Seems to me a pretty good price for such a vehicle.

Dave
Get a 73-79 ford pickup. We have two (77 f-150 & 78 f-250) and I would take both of these over any new truck, ford or otherwise, and both of these cost us a lot less than $45k.

I know advancement is something we have to come to expect... for better or worse...

I do know the last day that Ford offers a truck with a manual transmission (it will come I am sure) is the last day I buy a new truck.

I am waiting for that day too BigF350. I love the six speed, but a seven would be great. I am not too fond of cruising at 90 with the tach just under 3K.
