I just went and looked on the diagram. There's a fuel pump relay that feeds power to the inertia switch, from there it goes directly to the fuel pump. No mention of an overpressure switch at all. I couldn't find any information on which slot the fuel pump relay occupies.
I would begin by testing for power at the inertia switch. If none there, it's a safe assumption that everything downstream of that is ok, and you need to pursue why there is no power.
How do you adjust the fuel pressure up and down? I can not find anything on this in the manual.
There is no mention of it in the manual. You adjust the fuel pressure by shimming the spring inside the fuel pressure regulator on the outlet flange of the fuel filter housing. Or you can install an external regulator like a lot of guys have done. A gauge is required for accuracy.
That is the pressure in the filter housing. I have had to pull of the road last night to bleed the air out of the housing. Is this going to be a problem?
Not sure. Based on your description, you may have eliminated the stock return function at the bowl with that ball thus giving the air no way to exit the filter bowl. I would think that once it built up to a certain point, it would go to the fuel rails via the bottom lines in the bowl. This could end up causing you to stall. Not sure what effect this would have on the pump.
Have you done any fuel system mods besides the mentioned bearing? Have you opened up the fuel rails with a return system? The biggest enemy is air in the system. Then enhanced fuel pressure will really pay off as ramsmoker alluded to. Bottom line, make sure those injectors aren't firing without fuel in them.
so what would you say the optimum fuel psi is??? i have the external regualter and chipped truck,, where is a good place to start with psi and experiences,

65-70 psi is optimum

Yes there are definitely fuel pressure gauges that can be mounted in a pod like any other gauge... Autometer, ISSPRO, etc. all make them. Try a site sponsor or ITPDiesel or http://www.dieselmanor.com
Just to update you guys I seem to have solved the problem although I don't know what I did to repair it. I did find out that if you turn thr key on and do not start the truck within a minute or two, the computer, or something, shuts the pump off untill you rekey it. That is why I didn't have any voltage at the pump when I was troubleshooting it.
The only thing I did to repair it is I removed the fuel pressure mod. I have not had any problems since then.
I want to thank all you guys that opined on this. And Kwik, thanks for offering a wiring diag. although you probably never got my E-Mail.
