I have searched through as much as possible here with no real luck.
I have a 94 Explorer 4.0
The truck starts right up, no problem.
After idling for between 1 minute to 2 1/2 minutes, it dies.
It doesn't shimmy and shake or anything at all like that, JUST STOPS on a dime.
I replaced the IAC, still doing the same thing.
I've checked all vacuum lines.
While trying to figure this out the other day, it started and ran perfect for about 9 minutes, so, I got in to go for a ride, pulled up to the house, shut it off, went inside, came back out and drove about 50 feet and died.
It will start back up fine after a few minutes, then after 1-3 minutes, STOPS DEAD.
I think the first thing I would do would be to pull codes from the computer to see if the computer can see the problem. You can pull codes with nothing more than a paper clip (there are instructions all over the internet, or in any self-respecting repair manual).
I ran some codes on it and most of them led to the MAF Sensor, so, I disconnected it and the truck ran good, i took it for a 6 mile ride without hesitation or stalling.
The MAF Sensor looked pretty new, so, I didn't suspect it.
I'm going to buy a new one and try that since most every code was leading to that.
Yes, the fuel pump primes when you turn the key off and on.
All you have to do is replace a circuit braker the sits on the right side wheel well in the engine compartment. I had the same problem. As soon as that circuit breaker heats up it goes to the open position and kills the engine. I had the dealer do everything possible to my Explorer, and all it took was reading the owners manual.
I'm wondering if this is the same problem I have with my 93 Explorer. I go to start it and it bogs as if it is wanting to start, but back fires and will not idle. If you shut it off or it dies before doing so, you go to crank it up again and it starts fine and runs fine. it does it every so often. Just the other day it did it to the point where I tried for about ten minutes before it cranked up fine again. Any advice on this particular issue would be greatly appreciated.
