Okay, I got my new 250 cc 4x4 Lariat last week, and I've been fretting and posting over whether or not to put on the 315's. Some said yes, some no, some said lift, some said no.
Well....I wanted to report back since I just got my new BFG AT 315/70/17's back today. Awesome!! The exact look I wanted, and not a single rubbing problem. I cut them hard, ran into curbs, hit curbs with the wheels cut, etc. While I didn't try them with anything off-road, I can tell they'll be fine for anything I throw at them.
As far as looks, I think the trucks should come stock like this. Fill the wells nicely. Definitely could tell it affected stopping, however. Just a caution, nothing serious. Here are my pics......Don't know if I'll be able to figure out a link or not, but I have two set-ups in my gallery. One is the "before" Pirelli's, and the other is the "after" tires. And yes, that is hail damage
one note to those that are deciding whether or not to level----in my pics, the "tilt" is accentuated because my driveway is sloped. Should have got better pics to get a better idea of whether or not you'd want a leveler,
Your truck and tires look really good. I have a 2005 F250 FX4 and have wanting to do the same thing. I have just been so indecisive about whether to put a leveling kit or not that I have driven 19000 miles on the orginal tires. Now to make matters worse I saw a truck like mine the other day with 20" rims and BFG's. I liked it so much that I turned around and followed the guy so when he got out his truck I could talk with him.
I just got my new 06 F250 FX4 and got some new take off HD 20s on it. It looks great but lost power again. The ford house said to bring it in and they will reprogramm like a HD F250 with 20s and redo the speedo and I,m good to go. About $100 total for reprogramming tranny and speedo. Pics in profile. Charles
I have not given much thought to the speedo being off and the lose of power but I have a chip and wonder if I could "reprogram" with out bringing it a Ford dealer to do it.
Your truck looks good Charles. I love a nice single cab/long bed, looks like a work truck. I may go to the dealership and see if they can re-program mine to compensate for the new tires.
ISU,
.....You might just re-think those BFG's/20's if you see the price tag I also was thinking of getting 20's, but I found out the tires would be in the $400 range so I passed. ...So, I'll live with my 17's that look the same, just a lot smaller The money saved is going towards the Banks Fund (hopefully next year).
I have looked on the internet and the 20" are very expensive.
I have looking at junk yards and things like that. With the hurricane that blew through here last August and basically distroyed every car south of I-10 there are alot of trucks that have put in junk yards, per say, and other than water damage they are fine.
As can imagine I have no luck because they are not selling parts off these trucks because they tied up with insurance or they are damaged to bad.
ISU92, You are correct, the 20s are expensive and HD 20,s very expensive imo. I got them on ebay.
JonRedBird, Yes I havnt had a single cab since 88, thats four trucks ago. I traded in my 05 F350 PS CC long bed 4x4 for this one. Pics in my 05 SD gallery. I had been driving my 67 so much breaking in the new engine that when I got in my cc i just hated it. So I got a good offer for it and got this one. I like your truck to, its sharp. Charles
I put 285s on my 02 F250 ps. I felt like I lost power. Wished Id left the 265s on it. Charles
You do lose power in that your gearing is changed. I put a set of 285/75s on mine right after I got it because I wanted the look. But it did feel more sluggish due to the fact that by putting on a taller tire it effectively lowered my factory 3.73 gears to a lower ratio. I think it came to like a 3.51 but I might be wrong. In any case I could tell, especially when towing.
I wore out the 285s and went back to 265s and I feel like I'm driving a completely different truck. I towed with the new tires yesterday and I really noticed it was easier to hold speed on hills. So I miss the look but for practical reasons the smaller tires are great. They maych my spare once again and the truck corners a bit more sharply.
But on the other hand jonredbird I do like the look of the 315s! Nice choice. Can't beat BFGs they are great tires. I went from the BFG all-terrains with the 285s and now have the muds in 2265/75s.
