spare tire bracker

I am building a 47 Ford truck and am using a 53 Ford style bed and fenders. I am going to use the "spare tire" fender, (driver side), and am in need of the tire mounting bracket, anyone have one? I have also placed an ad in the classified section, thanks
Dave

Dave,

A member of the board,uc4me, posted this post a couple of days ago. Maybe you can work something out with him.

Ed, Saw that item, no it is not the one I am looking for. The one I need bolts to the bed with four or six bolts, not sure how many. It is made of steel "rod" with "flattened "ends for bolting to the bed.

One word of caution - I had a fender mount that bolted to the bed with four bolts. Over time the vibration and uneven weight distribution caused the bed side to buckle. I went to a running board mounted bracket, just a big "L" shape bolted at the bottom to the running board and two lug bolts welded at the top to mount the spare wheel to. Put it on 4 years ago, no problems to date. It is about 1/4" strap iron, I believe, probably 6" wide.

I believe that the 53 style bed is the same up through the 70's so you don't have to narrow your search to just the 53-56 trucks.

Good luck with it
Bobby
