engine shot!

I changed the oil in my 76 F150 360, and found antifreeze in the oil :/
So, now i'm trying to figure out a different engine for it. Can you use one out of a car? If so i could probably get a 390 out of something around here. My nephew says the car engine won't bolt up to the truck tranny. I've tried searching for info on here and other places, but no luck.

Thanks

a 390 is a 390 it will bolt up fine to your bell, you may need the oil pan and exhaust manifolds off the 360 though. Also if the 390 came out of a car it would probably be a good idea to change the cam to one that will work in the rpm range you need depending in your gearing and driving habits...Neil

Did you find anti freeze or moisture?
DO you drive the truck often and get it warm enough to burn off any built up moisture in the engine?
If it is actually coolant, it could be something as simple as an intake manifold gasket went bad or intake bolts needed to be torqued down better.
If the coolant thing is a way to get the Wife's or Signicant others OK to upgrade to another motor then I will be quiet from now on
Good luck with the project.
Ken

Welcome, as far as the anti-freeze is, it could be like Ken said just a intake or a head gasket. But if you want to upgrade to a 390, a car engine will bolt right in, I juse a 390 GT engine from a 67 Flairlane in my 66 4x4. If you use a pre 1965 engine, some of them did not have the mounting points on the side of the engine for a truck motor mount, but a adapter is ez to make. Let us know what you do find and if you need helpon advice on putting it in your truck.

heh

It's pretty bad, there was a LOT of antifreeze in the oil. The engine smokes pretty bad when it's started, and takes a long time to build oil pressure. I just figure it would be easier to find an engine from a car. It's also starting to smoke while it's running too. I think it's easier to just swap to a different engine than worry about fixing this one right now. That way I can still have use of the truck while I rebuild the other engine.

That's a good idea to build the old one and still using the truck, you my look into building the old 360 into 390, the extra cubic inches are nice.
