I am glad to see this posted. My vehicle clunks when accelerating from a stop, AND at cruising speed. I can hear it everytime I am driving along and let my foot of the gas pedal to coast. (manual tranny)

I guess i have a few things to look into.

bump to the top.........

I fully expect to get chirped for bumping a decade old thread, but just wanted to confirm that the slip yoke service corrected the “bump-thump” when accelerating from a stop for me as well. I performed the service today in about 15 minutes.

http://www.frontiernet.net/~jcray/04...50SlipYoke.pdf

Supplies used:

12 mm shallow socket
Red and Tacky grease (I use this for everything)
Pliers
zip tie
A little elbow grease!

I tried to drop the front U-joint first, but I couldn’t break it loose. Instead I indexed the position and dropped the rear joint of the driveshaft from the rear diff. MAKE SURE YOU CHOCK YOUR TIRES. Removed the boot clamp, gave the driveshaft a tap with a mallet and it slid free without any trouble.

I greased, reainstalled without thread locker on the 4 driveshaft bolts. Should I have used it? I tightened the snot out of them, but I’m not certain if they had it on there to begin with.

Anyway, just wanted to echo that this was the solution for mine!
