Need Opinions on DP-Tuner Econo Tune

I have the 60 HP Tow tune in his PCM. Thinking of going back to the drawing board and getting the stock ECM and and SCT2 with the Econo tune and the 60HP Tow tune. What will that get me that the 60 HP Tow tune alone in the PCM won't do? I think it is too late for me since I already am infected with PMS.

Mods in the engine and tranny include AIS, CCV, AIH Delete, 4 in MBRP and BTS VB.

Reason I asked about the SCT2 is because I might want to read codes or clear them.

I have Jody's chip. Obviously, I can run whatever setting I like. I really like the shifting of the 60 tow while towing as it keeps me in the power band and the throttle is not real sensitive. I run the 60 tow anytime I am running around in town or pulling <8,000#'s. On the 80 HP econo setting, the throttle is much more responsive and fun to drive, but the shifting is totally different and is really set up for highway driving. I run it nearly all the time on the highway. I picked up about 2 MPG at 70 MPH on interstate. At WOT, I can't tell that much difference on my truck (weak HPOP could be reason) but certainly different to drive because of the shifting patterns. If you don't want to spend the money for a tuner or chip, talk to Jody about a 80 HP tow. He can program whatever shifting you like for your type of driving. Of course, my recommendation is to go with a shift on the fly chip. I love mine.

I have the dp-tune 80hp, drive it everywhere and i really like it.
If i had 6 position flip, i could find a time and place for them, but don't
think i will ever have a need.

i think most will agree they run the 60 or 80 hp tune
most of the time and change to 40 tow or 100-120 race every once is a while
AFTER the new wears off.
I had the SC 1700 but it don't compare.

I have my PCM programmed for his 60HP tune. However, I am thinking of getting the SCT2 and having him put in a Econo tune so I can run econo when I need to and have diagnostic capabilities. However, if I don't need the 80 Econo tune, I might not get the SCT2 and stick with my ECM which is programmed for the Tow tune.

i wouldnt really worry about the diagnostic part, its really pretty useless imo. most all codes you now get will be related to the chip or low hpop and really will be thing you wont fix anyway just take the bulb out and save your money for more mods the emission light isnt much good once you chip it anyway

That might be too. Maybe I'll get a 2 position chip. Towing and tooling around town. It would be helpful to know what I gain with the Econo tune that I won't with the Tow tune

My ONLY gripe with the chip so far is that I think the Econo pedal sensitivity is a bit too high. Its basically as sensitive as the race setting and I would think an Econ tune would want to encourage you to resist the skinny pedal not encourage it. I wasn't able to do any exact milage calculation because I was in a hurry but with the eye-o-meter I definitely had more on the way down than on the way up.

I get a solid 1 mpg on the 80hp. Could problably get better but I think the fuel pump might be week. I just towed a 8000 lbs trailer from Lousiana to Oklahoma, the 60 was easier accelerating, better shifting and lower egt's. Cruising though the 80hp seemed the best, climbed hills with ease with egts the same as the 60. Like crusing around with the 80 cause lower shift points.

Heh! If you think the econo pedal sensitivity is high, you should've driven my truck with an Edge Evo set at 80 or 100. ALL the power seemed to be in the first 1/4 throttle - it would spin the tires on wet pavement if I just started to move the pedal. By comparison, the Econo is very linear, smooth, and easy to control, even in the wet - and it takes the annoying stock mush out of the first part of the pedal movement, the responseless part that convinced my wife that the truck was a slug.

aklim - all Jody sells now are 6-position chips, but you can get anywhere from one to 6 tunes on it - you just pay extra for the added tunes and he does not charge for the stock tune. I used all 6-positions, but couldn't see why I'd need 6 positions in 20-hp increments. I got the 40hp tow, 80hp econo, and 120hp race. I also have stock, fast idle, and no-start.

After playing with it, I now wish I had the 60hp tow (the 40 seems so wimpy after the 80+) and the 100hp performance mode, (and only rarely touch the 120 - I worry about my tranny). I'll be willing to sacrifice my high idle, as I seldom have use for it.

By the way, if you get a 6-pos chip with 2 or 3 tunes, you can send it back later and have more tunes added (or existing replaced) for whatever his fee is. Nice.

Maybe I will get 2 tunes on the 6 tune switch. Stock, 60HP Tow and 80HP Econo? That seem the way to go?

Not a bad idea. Staying away from the triple digit HP boost will help preserve engine life!

Mine also has a "no-start" position. While not a true theft prevention device, it has the potential to slow down a would-be thief - and a hidden fuel pump shut switch will make it much worse for him.

I don't think he charged me for the 'no-start' position.

I may have to send mine back and get the 40hp changed to a 60hp...

After talking with Jody last week, he said the 80 econo actually dyno's at 105HP so if you want a "fun" tune go with his 120 since the 100 is not much different from the 80 econo.

I seem to recall very recent dyno numbers that showed the 120 actually netted a decrease in HP and torque numbers on the dynojet when compared to the 100hp setting on the same vehicle.
