Hey folk's, new to the site. I just purchased an 03 F-350 XLT FX4 Super cab with the V-10. I'm always upgrading my toys and am wondering about this Y-Pipe I'm hearing about. The truck has a 4" or 5" Skyjacker lift, along with Flowmaster 40 series dual exhaust, going to add A LOT more to it, not many lifted Super Duties here in Upstate, NY. It's good to be different!!!
F-350WOODCHUCK - Welcome to FTE and the V10 Forum!
Do a search, you'll come up with lots of stuff - do the Advanced Search and search for y-pipe in the V10 forum.
There is a Flowmaster generic Y-pipe that a good exhaust shop can weld in place using pieces of the original Y-pipe and connecting up to the stock exhaust. Or whatever exhaust you already have back there
A good exhaust shop should be able to fab up their own y-pipe or already have ones pre-made.
i am doing the same thing right now. i've called ford and talked to people on forum.everyone says it is a good improvement . i found my pipe on jegs under the header/collector section.it is a 2.5 inlet and a 3'' outlet made by flowmaster.skipperw turned me on to this and there are some pictures of the install on another site. i am having mine put on sometime this week and i'll let you know how it goes.

We would love to hear the results, keep us posted. As for me been wanting to do it but havent been perswated yet, buy the loss of torque some have experienced, I dont want to lose any low end as thats where I need it for towing.
I wish someone could explain to me this notion of not wanting to lose low end torque for towing. It has been said many times by people pulling big trailers etc, that the power really comes on at 3k-4k rpm's and the V-10 will run there all day long. When I pull my little 4k lb trailer up the Sierra's I'm at 3k-3.5k rpm's. The truck won't even keep speed below 3k rpm's and I have 3.73. If I had 4.30's, obviously I would be at even higher rpm's.
So as I have asked before, where is the loss a concern? 1500-2000 rpm's? If that is the case, my set-up would be in OD, and I can tell you I would not be able to pull the hills in OD.
A majority of owners only tow 25% of the trucks life... the rest of the time we are empty and loosing bottom end grunt can be a severe limitation. Especially in a 2001 to 2004 with 4R100 that wants to "hunt" for a gear at the slightest incline.
Depending on rear gears (most being 3.73:1) cruise rpm at 70 MPH is between 1900 and 2250 RPM. Not having 75% to 80% of your torque right there can frustrate an already funky situation, forcing OD to be locked out and higher fuel costs.
I have said for 5 years now that if you tow heavy and often (especially if you are tall mountain towing), go ahead and do all the mods, they work in the 3600 to 4800 RPM range and that is where most of your uphill climbing is done. Having 15 to 30 extra ponies there is a good thing.
But you have to admit there are a whole lot of fellow here that get a new truck, lift it, add large tires, and do all the power adder mods. Then they come down here and want to know why their truck is a dog....
Easy... Large tires, and loss of low end grunt, screwed up the whole balance of low to mid range rpm driveability.
Fred,
I agree with you 100%. That is why I wanted to make it clear on my question for guys who are concerned with this loss when towing, not just the average Joe, like me.
i think thats what i weighed with the 8v71tia detroit diesel sitting in the bed if not more as it had the marine gear box on it also. the guys are correct about the mod guy .
