Problem @ 130 miles
I just picked up my truck and It was fine for about 2 hours and then its started to make a horrible rattle sound (like a heat sheild) but I can't find the rattle and it sounds like its comming from the area of the oil pan. I did the "test" and the only time it does it is between 800 and 3500 RPM

Bad luck but the truck will be ok, in recent years I've been buying the extended warrenty for 75,000 miles. One repair after the 36,000 warrenty usually more than makes up for the price. I got a 2000 Focus with 14 recalls--recalls suck, but I'll keep that car for awhile. NEVER buy a first model of ANYTHING. The F150 is probably one of the oldest Ford models if not the oldest and has few recalls.

Funny, I have never bought an extended warranty on any product I have ever bought.
And, I have never found myself wishing I had.
I believe the reason the extended warranties are pushed so hard (in all consuemer purchase situations) is because the seller knows he is far more likely to come out ahead if the buyer purchases the extended warranty.
But, I don't fault folks who do buy them. Peace of mind is worth something, and that peace of mind comes form different places from person-to-person.
Different strokes for different folks.

I have a 2000 Taurus----it had 3-repairs on the extended warrenty, the fuel pump repair alone was 800 dollars, it also had front suspension problems which made the warrenty more than worth it. The torque converter went bad at 98,000 miles$$$$$$$
The focus (2000-1st model year) had many many repairs, the fight with it was between ford and ford....i.e. who would pay for the repairs.
My ranger had the rear window changed several times-----leaked with wear, it also had front suspension problems$$$$$, a cooling problem where they changed the radiator, hoses, on and on....ford dealers deal with problems (often times) by just changing and changing parts)$$$$
I mainly get the warrenties at the best price I can for the number of miles I will drive in 6-years. One major repair (tranny) makes it worth the $$$.

I bought my '99 used in 2000,bought a 66mo ext warranty. I currently have almost 110,000 miles on it and although I feel I wasted my money on the warranty I am glad I have not had to do any repairs yet to the truck. With the amount the warranty cost plus all the interest at my high 13% rate for 66 months I just calculated it out and I probably would to have had to replace the entire engine or something really big to even break even on the warranty. Guess I didnt think about that when I got it.
