Damn, I just put all my brochures away. The "specials" were available on the F100/250 8-foot Stylesides, Contractor Special, Farm & Ranch Special and Heavy Duty Special. Will post some pics tomorrow.

Farm and Ranch Special

The F/R special started in 69,I think. I've got the cowl badges from one. The package as described in the brochure had wooden upper box side panels and a heavy duty alternator. There is actually a 67 I've seen on a friends farm with Farm and Ranch Special decals on the cowl sides. I have no idea on the origin of these. I'll try to get some pics up sometime.

How do you tell the difference between the '73-'75 grille?

I found a practically Brand New front bumper for one of these years today.

I snagged it before someone else did.

Too bad I can't use it.

I thought 73-74 looked the same and 75-77 were alike. Maybe I'm wrong, wouldnt be the first time (or last)

I thought it went like '73-'75, '76-'77 and '78-'79 along with that square headlight transition but I'm no expert on these "later" models.

FYI,
The 78-79 with the Rectangular headlights had three differnt grilles.
Silver, Silver with chrome & Black
The headlight bezels could be in either Black or Chrome.

Here is a photo of a 77 from the brochure.
You guys decide the difference.

The only difference in the grille work of the 1975 is that Ford deleted the red "XLT" badge that went on the center post of the grille in 1975. But that would only work on XLT trucks, if the truck is a Custom or Ranger there is no difference.

1976 and 1977 grilles are the same. But you can tell them apart because 1976 trucks have the model identification (Custom, Ranger, Ranger XLT) on the bed below the upper bodyside moulding. 1977 trucks have model id and series id (F-100, F-250, etc) combined on the front cowl panel just above the upper bodyside moulding. Going under the hood, 1977 was the first year for the 351M-400 engines which replaced the 360-390s used in 1976.

1978 and 1979 are basically the same with one exception. If you see round headlights, it is a 1978 because rectangular headlights became standard in 1979. If you see rectangular headlights, then I don't think you can tell them apart. I think if it is an F-150 and demands unleaded fuel, then it is a 1979.

I wish there was a way to make a living with this trivia.

Rectangular headlights are available on 78's.
They are STANDARD equipment on The 78 Ranger trim package.
