Engine Code

Hi,

I have a co-worker who has a 99 Mustang GT. He is having a problem with his ECM computer. When we look up the VIN number, it designates his engine as a 4.6L SOHC V8. His vin is 1FAFP42X7XF141099. I am not sure if the engine digit of X was used since Ford was experimenting with the Cobra Engine and dropped a Cobra engine into the GT or if this is actually a SOHC engine. When he went to Ford to get a computer, he installed it and the engine wouldn't start. Was wondering if anyone would be able to give me more details on the engine and ECM used.

Thanks,

Chris

Why did he need a new ECU? That might help us.

Does the engine turn over?

The calibration numbers from each ECU should match for the best result.

Just throwing out an idea to think about.

I'd bet the failure to start is due to a failure to properly program the PCM for the PATS keys....

Mustang VIN Engine codes:

The eighth VIN position is the engine displacement and number of cylinders code.

l V — 4.6L, EFI (DOHC), eight cylinder

l X — 4.6L, EFI (SOHC), eight cylinder

l 4 — 3.8L, EFI, six cylinder
