HELP ID this engine and car. It's a "RAT ROD" project...

Trouble is, we need to know what engine we are dealing with, trace prior owners to get some idea of what was done, when, or what was not (we think the water pumps are just plain shot).

Yes- PUMPS. There is one for each bank.

We don't know the engine size, but think it is 100 horse from what was told to us.

Judging by what we have found so far - everyone who has touched it was a non-mech. Therefore they were scared to do much...

WE AIN'T SKEERED!!!

We also need to find a VIN tracking site to run down number: BEMP156297

- There may or may not be an engine code in that. Any clues or advice are welcome and appreciated.

It's a 1950 2DOOR Ford sedan.

Engine is a flathead V8, original as far as we know.

PICTURES HERE: http://geocities.com/tennesseefte/projects/504d/504d1.html

DO you enjoy puzzles? Wanna do some "SHERLOCKING"? Let's see what we can find...

If you can suggest where to look for more numbers, we can get picks, look, or write back on it.

The original serial plate on the firewall was painted over by a/an (careless person).

IE: Insert suitable profanity of your choice in parenthesis.

This car is of particular interest to us because:
1) It's a ford, and has the original flathead.
2) It rolled out of the MEMPHIS plant way back when - if the serial number is accurate.

We got the floor shifter straightened out today - fabricating our own brackets to stabilise it and extending a HURST shifter that was in it.

If it is the original motor in a 1950 Ford, it is a model 0BA and is 100hp. As i recall the number should be on the left head.

Lets assume its a late model Flathead, generally called an 8BA, made from 49-53 in the States till 54 in Canada, and the Trucks had them in 48. Basically all parts interchange, heads could be 8RT, BA, EAB, EAC, 8M, Sears And a bunch of aftermarket usually with the manufactures name casted in. The Water pumps are best described as the same function and differ by application, i.e. Trucks, Ford Cars and Mercury. Ford Flatheads were 239 Cu In and the Flatheads used in Mercs were 255 Cu In. The Cranks, rods and pistons have to be all Ford or all Merc.

I am the Official flathead disposal Agent for the US and Canada, if you decide that you don't want yours, you are required by law to crate it up and ship it to me.

Speedway Auto has the waterpumps :http://www.speedwaymotors.com/

The site below are stricktly Flatheads, I would suggest that you browse some, Ah, learn their language, and go for it.

There is a $500 fine for improperly disposing of a flathead so make sure you ship it carefully to the above disposal agent. If it arrives damaged in any way the penalties include jail time in a cell with Bubba... The best shipping crate to avoid damage is the original "container".

Don't butcher the poor guy TOO much. Ahh what the heck go ahead. But you are required to ship it in the original "container". The "container" has to be frame off resto'd of course.

With this post being 3 months old, you have most likely found out for sure what it is.
With the distributer on the front end of the engine,I'm gonna say it is pre 49.
I think in 49 the distributer was relocated to the top of the engine. 60 HP unless it has been worked on.
Am I in the ballpark???

The 60hp's were tiny little engines (I had one), the larger V8's had 85 and 100hp.
