How much is too much?????
I bought my truck "used" 3 years ago and it did not come with an owners manual, so I am not sure on the towing limits, GCVW, GVW..... So my question is this..... I'm thinking of selling my 32' travel trailer and buying a fifth wheel toyhauler. The "loaded" toy hauler is going to be around 12000 lbs.http//www.fleetwoodrv.com/brandtomodel/floorplan.aspx?brand=gearbox/gb&m=295FS Am I biting off more than my truck (see sig) can chew?
I'm guessing this is going to be about 2000 lbs. more than what Im working with now. Instead of it being divided up between the bed of the truck and the trailer it will be all trailer. Right now my truck handles the load great, but i don't want to over do it.Thanx for the info,
Roach

You are going to push the single rear wheel F250 pretty hard from a safe cornering and stopping perspective...the power train is up to that high a load. You must consider a good aux cooler for the 4R100 auto trans. If you insist on that much load a set of Firestone air bags is gonna help
You need to figure the total weight on the real axle and make sure you have a set of tires that can handle that load... and you seriously need a aftermarket higher capacity dist brake set up on all four corners.
I highly recommend you do not tow a giant 5er with F-250 overloaded and very fast...
I have seen first hand what happens in any emergency braking and maneuver required... I assume you will have your family out experiencing the country and playing with the toys in the Toy Hauler... I have seen the carnage on the side of the road when too small a truck (driving normal and not erratic) had to do a quick swap lane maneuver because some dumb person in front of a big rig cut across 3 lanes to make an exit they almost past... just like a NASCAR race... every one else had to get on the brakes and whoa it up ... this guy in front of ME was too close to the tractor trailer and was not going to get her shut down in time and the only other thing to do was try to pass on the left in front of me. I had my rig shut down pretty good (ABS screaming at my right foot) so he had room to squeeze in... His front end jerked to the left and the momentum of the 5er pushed his *** end straight ahead and he jack knifed right in front of me the whole mess went into the grassy median and started to roll.. the 5er beat the truck all to hell and in doing so crossed over into the oncoming other side of I 75 and killed a family in a small sedan. I was pushing a 22,000 pound load myself in a 2001 SuperDuty F-250 (two Harley's in the bed and a 27 foot loaded to the gills older heavy travel trailer)
Yes sir it is done all the time... knowledge is power
I don't do it any more
The sell duallys and F450 and F550 for real serious loads for a reason... it isn't always about the pulling power...safe stopping is manditory where every you intend to go play..

With 4.30's it goes up to the max of 12,500lbs.
Always remember to figure the GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating) and don't exceed it. If you get pulled over be prepared to PAY

What gears do you have? And exactly what configuration is the truck? CC, SC, RC, etc?
heres a link to a down load of your owners manaul to help you out some. good luck and shinny side up.
