- get yourself a 400 crank and pistons and rebuild it as a 400.
- replace the retarded factory timing chain with a 'straight up' one.
- install a decent cam (comp cams 255 or 265-deh) and appropriate springs.
- port & polish the heads, especially smoothing out the exhaust side.
- headers, and if your local smog **** allows, 4-barrel intake and carb.
