Hi, I have a 2004 F150 Fx4 Supercrew with 25,000 miles on it. The passenger rear brake caliper is freezing up on it, at first i thought it was the parking brake, cause i had just used it, but i took the brakes apart and the parking brake was not hung up, and when i went to try and push the piston in on the caliper, it went in really hard, and the brakes are getting so hot they are smoking, also all the rotors on the trucked are grooved really bad, which is not my main concern, the caliper is as it is sticking. My question is will this be covered by the factory warranty, because if not i will just redo the whole brake system myself, rather than let ford touch it.
The 3/36 warranty should cover everything. If you have a problem at one dealer I would suggest finding another. I currently have an appointment to get the lower portion of my drivers seat recovered. The leather was chipping off the side bolster. It only has 24,000 on it.... I didn't want to see it when it has 80,000. There wouldn't be any leather left! FWIW, I had a Dodge Durango with serious brake issues like your having. I had mine into one dealer in the mountains of NC for one side, then as soon as I got back to town the other side did the same thing. Another dealer fixed the opposite side. All covered by warranty. Dodge's warranty sucks compared to Ford.
Something that is obvious and undistbutable like a brake caliper hanging up should be covered by Ford's warranty. Its when the dealer service adviser can claim or pretend not to hear / see the problem is when you will get no warranty servce from ford. BTW I found Dodge's warranty service way way better then ford's stealer warranty service to date. In other word's ford's warranty sucks compared to Dodge's, so there!
I also have a rear brake issue. I have 2000 F350 dually crew... for a while now the left-not all the time-will let out a horrible howl when stopping and it smells and smokes. We had replaced brakes and rotars were fine. Yesterday it REALLY howled and i thought my truck was on fire! I took it to less schwab today and they told me the rotars look fine but are under spec, there was enough brake material and they could not see that the caliper was sticking! they are going to check the E brake and see if its hanging up. Any ideas? I would hate to spend 500 on brakes rotars and calipers if not needed... thanks!
