Headlight Trim Rings
I currently have one set of each style for my truck, one of which I've reinforced and had repainted black. While I was looking for something to reinforce the repairs I had made on the cracks on my original set of inserts. I found some heavy aluminum mesh material at Ace Hardware called "Gutter Guard". Not only was this material absolutely perfect for providing terrific support for the repairs I had made. I also found that it also looks really fantastic when used as a silver background accent color to the black grill when installed just behind the center section of each insert.
Since this little repair/customization project of mine has turned out so well. I've also been giving some serious consideration to the possibility of also installing a pair of round chrome trim rings to accent the black area around the headlights. Maybe even adding a pair of those chrome mesh screens used to protect the headlights on off road vehicles.
Since I'm not really too sure if there ever was any OEM parts of this type ever offered by Ford. I was wondering if anyone out there would have any information that might be helpful.
I'm sure that this type of repair/accent modification could also be used on any style or color of insert used on our trucks. So, just In case anyone out there wants to try it for themselves. It's very easy and inexpensive to do! All you need is a roll of "Gutter Guard" and any type of two part epoxy paste. I used a product called "PC-7", Although it's almost exactly the same as "JB Weld", this type gives you quite a bit more product to work with. The "Gutter Guard" material is also very inexpensive and very easy to cut & shape. The only hard part at all is getting the epoxy off your hands when you're done. So, if you want to try this project on your grill inserts? I would strongly suggest using some of those disposable rubber gloves
Any comments, assistance and/or suggestions of any type (good or bad) would be sincerely appreciated!
Thanks,
