Dash warning lights idea

Ok so I got an idea...I gotta pull my dash whenever my gauge bezel gets here to install it, figure I'll do the lights as well.

I got this crazy idea of jumping the warning lights off of each other, daisy chaining them all to the battery warning light.

I figure I could jump the 4x4, Low Range, Anti Theft, all the lights that don't come on when the key is turned to RUN before starting it.

What you guys think, feasible? I just know if my dash lights up like a Christmas tree something's wrong with the battery! lol.

Why would you want to do that?

I have NO IDEA!!! That's the weird part about it, I just figured why not...the 4x4 lights and the anti theft and all of the "unused" ones on my truck are there...I just want them to light up for the heck of it.

I agree with Dono, why would you do something like that? By wiring them all together, you will not be able to tell what the problem is!!

If I were going to use any of the unused lights, I'd use them for a reminder for something else. Say you have some undercar neon or something like that. Then, when you turned the switch on controlling the auxillary lights, one of the extra bulbs in the dash would light up to tell you it's on and remind you.

But I think I'd just leave it alone, messing with the printed circuit can get real messy real fast if you don't watch out.

I was intending to wire them all to the charging system warning light, so they'd light when the ignition was turned to RUN prior to starting, and if they all light up, I know something is wrong with the charging system. I'm only wiring up the useless ones in my truck, like 4x4, low range, and anti-theft.

Well I'll see about it when I get in there when the bezel comes, thanks for the suggestions guys.

Zach - One thing I did back when I had the dash out of my '99 .... since I had the needles off, I filled the gas tank full and put the needle back to the exact spot I wanted. Be careful with the speedo needle, it took me some tries to get it right.
I have a stack of Truckin magazines you might enjoy, but you live on the other side of the world from me (Wylie/Carrollton). If you ever happen to wander in my direction, give me a PM and I will try to meet you.

Good thought about the gas needle! I might just have to do that, make it actually sit on full when the tank is full (I mean seriously...who woulda thought...). What's up with the speedo needle? Take some effort? I was hoping it would be conveniently easy to do. If I ever end up over there, I'll be sure to let you know, those magazines sound like fun!

What's up with the speedo needle?
The speedometer needle must be recalibrated when you remove it.

When I pulled my original speedo to put in my tach cluster, it took a couple trys to get it correct. Easy to do with a tach and Peter Ogden's program (Linky ). I've tested mine since and it is exactly correct.

I recommend Tiggie's method. What I did was call the local police and ask where their mobil radar displays were set up. I made passes at diferent speeds, moved the needle until it was correct.
