recently got a tailgate patch panel from JCWitney- sons '83 bronco. It's ok but the steel is very soft- bends like it's aluminum of same thickness. I will be buying some fenders for my '77 truck and do not want that quality- are there places to stay away from? Or do patch panels usually have softer steel? yada yada- thanks.
BTW: I appreciate all the + feedback on the paintjob...made me feel good-
I don't know what to suggest other then getting some from a salvage yard if you can find any in good shape, or if a dealer has some good factory ones stashed away somewhere. A lot of the aftermarket sheetmetal you can get at various places may have the same place that supplies them. Years ago I replaced some fenders on my uncles f150 around that year and think he got some aftermarket ones from browns of two rivers. They fit okay, but are aftermarket. Aftermarket is known to be a little less in quality, thinner steel, and can run into things like fitment issues or a bodyline off, ect. Heres a link to browns. I believe they get thier parts from cross canada, so may be a supplier in your area. Like I said his fenders fit okay, but were aftermarket. Could even be the same thing you would get from jc whitney? who knows, but the prices aren't bad. http://browns-of-tworivers.com
found them ok with a lot of different places just wondering about the experiences of others in regards to quality- especially soft steel that can bend by thumb pressure.
Well if your looking for a driver or something close to a driver, then aftermarket from LMC (dont recomend them) blue oval truck parts (REALLY dont recomend them) National Parts Depot ( I regularlly order from them ), or look in your phone book and call a local bodyshop and see who their aftermarket parts supplier is. Keystone, Autobody Panels, Action Crash, etc etc
If your looking for a full on Resto job.. NPD and Dennis Carpenter both have NOS and Dennis Carpenter has exact repro parts from original dies.. be warned..these are not cheap but worth it when it comes to fitment.
