A little progress today. The kids and I pulled apart the IFS on one side. One of the steering hoses had been leaking pretty good, so it came apart easy

It's interesting the Chevy made the hub spacer part of the rotor. Ford allowed you to just replace the rotor. It also looks like it is only a single piston caliper. Ford used huge dual piston calipers. They used pretty much the same rotor size 12 1/2" chevy and 12 9/16" Ford. Looking good though.

The later model Chevs have a slip on rotor. Luckily these have enough left so they can be turned, this style rotors are awfully expensive. The other goofy thing that I found last night was that the upper balljoint was riveted to the control arm from the factory. The replacements bolt on, but you have to drill out the rivits. Only took about 10 minutes, but I thought it was odd.

Riveting of the original ball joints is more common than you might think, I have run into that often...

Been another year, must be time to do some more work on the Ford

Put the lowering spindles and springs in last week. Went to the MSRA event today and got motivated to install the 460.

Been another 6 months, finished building another jeep - must be time to spend a couple days working on the Ford again.

Last night I hacked hole in firewall so that I could put the cab back where it belongs. The Olds 455 fit without mods, the 460 doesn't.

wow, been a year now since I hacked up the firewall and it hasn't been touched until today.

Ordered up a whole new Direct Fit recessed firewall last week, should be here next week

It's finally got a complete brake system. Calipers pads and lines came in yesterday, might even get it filled and bled tonight.

If the transmission sits up too high for the stock cover on the floor, you might try to find one from a heavey truck as they are made with a 2-3" hump and still fit stock, but would give a little more clearance. I picked one up to possibly use on my 54 F250, but didn't need it. I used the tube motor mount kit sold by a number of places for a 460 and that allowed me to set the engine and tranny low enough that I could clear everything without mods to the cab or using the big truck tranny cover.

It does stick up some. but a stock cover wouldn't fit anyway. The new firewall comes back 4" farther than stock. I think Direct sells a matching trans cover, but I'll have to get the firewall installed first.

Spent last night cutting out the firewall for replacement with a 4" setback firewall. Got it cut out enough to set the new piece in and realize that I need to order a front floor section from DS to complete the job. Still have about 100 more spotwelds to drill out, but it's going fairly well.
