Ok,
__this might help understand some of what seatbelts do.

The job of the seatbelt is to keep the person in a vehicle & out of harm's way (Like ejection, slamming steerinng wheel, & head going into/thru windshield.)

But; this is under certain circumstances of what they were designed for.
As things like:
head on collisions, side inpacts, rear collisions, & some rollovers.
These tests are done at 35-m.p.h. for a reason.(No breaks used, full bore.)
The human body can only take so many G's, same go's for kinetic energy.

( Definition :-
Kinetic energy is the energy of motion, observable as the movement of an object, particle, or set of particles. Any object in motion is using kinetic energy: a person walking, a thrown baseball, a crumb falling from a table, and a charged particle in an electric field are all examples of kinetic energy at work. Objects that are not in motion possess potential energy (the other main type of energy), which is converted to kinetic energy when some force , such as gravity , acts upon the object to set it in motion. Elastic potential energy, for example, is stored in a stretched rubber band; when the rubber band is released, the stored energy is converted to kinetic energy.)

(Plus the faster an object moves the more kinetic energy is stored, roughly put. meaning the object has more mass -weight-.)

Hope not boring you with all this science+math.

You see once you reach a suitable rate of kinetic energy.
The seat belt is able to save you.
Too much K-energy & it can do the reverse.

But you must be wearing it properly:
Lap;across hip-bone.
shoulder; inbetween neck & shoulder socket -resting on coller bone.

If not worn correctly it can do just as much or more damage as you wear'nt wearing it at all.

Over 35 m.p.h. W/no breaking usally means your dead.
Unless there's thet 1'n'a million chance that you live. Chances are you'll wish you died. things for someone to live like before the crash are close to nil.

As for not wearing it; I would, knowing that I will most likly be in a low speed accident more than a high speed one.

As for the law; yes I agree that adults should have a "choice" to click-it or not click-it.
Trying to coerce us by fining us drivers, which I feel is wrong.
It should be done by exsample not by punnishment.
But, I can only myself can only do so much.

I hope this info helps anyone that took the time read this.
So when out there; drive safe.

Good-luck & Godspeed.
